Summer s End Do popular songs today ever refer to summer s end like they did in the 50 s and 60 s? Probably not, though if you read this and are aware of any recent composers musings on these sentiments, I d be inclined to listen. Those songs that used a common experience of the time often played at the strings of those lucky enough to experience a summer romance. Songs like, Will I See You in September by the Happenings or Girl Don t Tell Me by the Beach Boys. As a youth it felt like the summer days slowly blended into the never ending quilt of work at home or school. Magical as it may have seemed, the truth of what really mattered then centered mostly in the memories that we made of summer, not so much the times between. Like the times we d ride to Stevens Creek Reservoir from Santa Clara and jump off the spill way to say that we rode all the way there to go swimming we thought it was the only adventure we d ever have. Or when we took the big trips over to Santa Cruz or Tahoe for a family vacation. Going away from home is a big transition for youngsters, but having these experiences allows them to perceive their aptitude and begin to make the best of it so to find their place among their peers hopefully in a welcoming and caring community. This is the way we learn personal responsibility and choose to follow a life vocation. It is the way all of reach individual autonomy and can be in the world unafraid. These are days of endless summer, chasing surf with long evenings among friends around campfires singing in four-part harmony. Sometimes we cannot keep from the attractive power of singing together in full heart and voice. Music has such a powerful a way of attracting what lies dormant at the heart of our being. It has the power to release the energy for drawing us more closely than originally perceived. It s like singing about how summer will never end oh really, how naïve! Snap out of it and face reality summer ends like every season, ends. The earth will continue to do as God intends. As stewards of the grandeur that is God s creation, and to whom we obliging attribute all in the natural world and all the beauty it contains. As stewards of the natural world, it is incumbent upon us to find a way to greet the new day with unwavering faith. It s an amazing time to find one s self, the transition from summer to autumn, between the R and R of summer and the resumption of our work together. Almond Grove Street Work - update On Friday, July 14, 2017, San Jose Water began work on replacing the water line on Bean (between N.
