ORDER FOR THE WORSHIP OF GOD TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH June 28, 2009 10:30 AM Organ Prelude Douglass McFarland, organist Thoughts for Worship Preparation For the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light. Luke 16:8 The rogue acted with prompt foresight. If only my followers would do as much from nobler motives. George Buttrick s rewrite of Luke 16:8 Emphatically, it can be said, Jesus is not asking his disciples to become children of darkness. Jesus is calling his disciples to be children of light who live in the world with realistic eyes, who act with zeal, and who demonstrate foresight. Jesus wants the children of light to become shrewd saints. I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. Matthew 10:16 Pastoral Welcome The Rev. John McCracken God s Greatness *Call to Worship Isaiah 43:18-21 Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise! *Hymn of Adoration, No.38 Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise JOANNA *Prayer of Adoration Mr. Michael Wichlan

*Hymns of Praise, No. 660 O God Beyond All Praising THAXTED Every Promise of Your Word Townend Public Confession of Sin John Krieger, Ruling Elder Most holy and merciful Father; we acknowledge and confess before You our sinful nature prone to evil and slothful in good, and all our shortcomings and offenses. You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from Your ways; in wasting Your gifts, in forgetting Your love. But You, O Lord have mercy upon us who are ashamed and sorry for all wherein we have displeased You. Teach us to hate our errors, cleanse us from our secret faults, and forgive our sins, for the sake of Your dear Son. And most holy and loving Father help us, we beseech You, to live in Your light and walk in Your ways according to the commandments of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Silent Confession - 2 -

Declaration of Forgiveness Romans 9:14-16 Elder: Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means! For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. My friends, I declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Song of Gratitude I m So Glad Spiritual God s Gifts Prayers for Christ s Church and the World Mr. Krieger The Collection of Tithes and Offerings The Musical Offering I Will Sing New Songs of Gladness Anton Dvorak Trinity Choir I will sing new songs of gladness, I will sing Jehovah's praises upon a ten-string psaltery. Every day will I extol Thee and will bless Thy Holy Name, I will bless Thy Holy Name. Great is God and great His mercy. Who shall tell of all His greatness? Who shall His power declare? My song shall be of praise and honor, and of Thy glorious acts. Thy works are wonderful, past our knowing. Yeah, men shall tell of Thy great kindness and of Thy wondrous might, and my voice shall proclaim aloud Thy glory. The Offering Consecration Mr. Wichlan - 3 -

Help us to renew commitment to a way of ministry Which interprets for our culture how your truth can make us free. Challenge us, O God, our Father, to the tasks which must be done For your church to find fulfillment in the way taught by your Son. With awareness of our purpose, with commitment to your call, May we help prepare the time when Christ will reign as Lord of all. - 4 -

God s Blessing *The Charge and Benediction The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways a prudent man gives thoughts to his steps.the prudent are crowned with knowledge the plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what they teach, for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips so that your trust may be in the LORD. Proverbs 14:8, 15, 18; 21:5 22:17-19 With God s help we will. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Romans 15:13 Thanks be to God! Amen!
