Volume 61 No. 3 November 2008 My Brother Knights: For many of us, this time of the year evokes images of crisp autumn leaves, family gatherings and foods that delight the senses. There is a feeling of warmth and security in the air. Unfortunately, there are numerous Americans even in our own community who do not share in that freedom. In our great nation of plenty, for whatever reason, some are denied the ability to share in our bounty. Many of our neighbors and friends can only dream of that extra piece of turkey and slice of pumpkin pie that you and I too easily take for granted. It is our responsibility as Knights of Columbus to get involved. There are many ways to help, donate your time, food and when possible your financial resources. The next time you pass someone on the street that is in need, remember how lucky you are and don t turn away. Remember, hunger does not end with the holidays. There but for the grace of God go I. Please exercise your right to vote on November 4. On November 13, we will be hosting a 2 ND Degree at our Council at 8 pm. Please come and support your new brother knights. Our Annual Memorial Mass will be on Thursday, November 20, at 8 pm. Our Chaplain Rev. Father Kevin Dillon will celebrate the mass for all our Brother Knights who have gone on to their eternal reward. Letters have been mailed out to their families and friends. I urge all my brothers to make an effort to attend. There will be light refreshment following the mass. C & B chance books are another source of revenue for the council. Once we reach our quota the additional revenue we will be enable us to continue our charitable works. Brothers please return your books with payment. Books are $12 each and checks can be made payable to K of C #2502 and mailed to K of C #2502 Attn C and B PO Box 243 Mineola NY 11501 Light up for Christ will take place on Tuesday, December 2, at 8 pm. I would fail in my duty as a Grand Knight if I did not take time out to thank Brother Nick Pennacchio and his committee for running the annual Italian Night dance. Also I should mention Brother Tom Kelly in doing an outstanding job selling the 200 tickets. Thursday, November 20, will be the last day to drop off bags of groceries for our annual food drive. To all who have donated I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I want too wish all my brother knights a very Happy Thanksgiving. God Bless, Ken Lyons, Grand Knight

Once again Brother Peter Augello received nothing but raves about the dinner presentation. Pro-Life Corner: Vote on Election Tuesday November 4 th This November America s future hangs in the balance. Catholics across the nation will have the responsibility to make their voices heard. Many issues are at stake some are more important than others, no issue can be ignored. But none are more crucial to the foundation to our country than Life and Family. The family must be strengthened, not redefined. Human life is superior and must be protected from the moment of conception to natural death. Catholics have been essential to the success of America since the beginning. Catholics immigrants helped build this country and their children fought to preserve it. Now more than any other time in history a new generation must stand for truth. The strength of our nation is not only on its military or economic power. But in our commitment to moral values for the good of the world. Sixty Seven Million Catholics in America working alongside countless others, we can protect the values. This great nation was built upon Life, Faith and Family. This Election day everything you hold sacred will need your vote, Vote Your Conscience. During this election year let's be reminded of these words: * You cannot help the poor, by destroying the rich. * You cannot strengthen the weak, by weakening the strong. * You cannot bring about prosperity, by discouraging thrift. * You cannot lift the wage earner up, by pulling the wage payer down. * You cannot further the brotherhood of man, by inciting class hatred. It was Abraham Lincoln Very, very wise words, written years ago and we still don't get it. Congratulations are in Order: PGK Tom Kelly became a 4 th Degree Knight on Sunday, October 19. Thanksgiving Weather Report: Here is the in-house weather report that we found really funny. So we have brought it for you to read: The temperature of turkeys will gradually increase through the day as they will thaw in the morning and will have a temperature of about 190o F in the oven by afternoon. The cook's temperature will soar to hot and dry while humidity of kitchen will increase terribly. Busy moms may give you a cold shoulder today. Bothering them too much may lead to a small tempest. By later afternoon, the cold knife will cut across the turkey and one-to two inch high slices of turkey will fall on the plates. Cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes will make the plates slippery and grimy. Stuffiness may increase drastically around the waist belt, so warnings have been issued about indigestion and weight watch today. You will have to pass the gravy. However, the evening will see turkey diminishing to leftovers that can then be even distributed to all the guests. The high pressure in the stomach will diminish slowly by the following weekend. Happy Thanksgiving to all from the Clarion Editor.
