Youth Ministry and Confirmation 415-897-2171 ext.277 Fasting and Abstinence for Catholics in the U.S. During Lent, Catholics in the United States abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and on all the Fridays of Lent. They fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. To abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent means to not eat meat on those days. It does not intend the omission of eggs or dairy products. The required fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday involves eating only one full meal on those days. One or two smaller meals may be taken on those days, but may not total one full meal. The required fast does not allow eating anything between meals. "All Catholics who have completed their fourteenth year are bound by the law of abstinence; all adults are bound by the law of fast up to the beginning of their sixtieth year. Nevertheless, pastors and parents are to see to it that minors who are not bound by the law of fast and abstinence are educated in an authentic sense of penance." - Code of Canon Law, #1252 Mass Times Monday Friday 9:00 am Saturday 9:00am 5:00 pm (Vigil Mass) 7:00 pm (Spanish Vigil Mass) Sunday 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12 Noon Spanish Mass Eucharistic Adoration Every Friday 9:30am-5:00 pm Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday3:00pm-4:00pm Rosary Monday Thursday after 9am Mass and 5:30pm Friday after 9am Mass and at 5pm Sunday at 3:00pm Baptisms Please contact the Rectory- Catechesis Required Marriages Please contact the Rectory at least 6 months in advance Our Lady of Loretto St. Vincent de Paul Society 415-497-5090 Visit us on the Web www.ollnovato.org E-mail us: church@ollnovato.org The Knights of Columbus invite you to attend our 47th annual St. Patrick's Dinner Dance Fund Raiser on Saturday March 19th in the Hall. We hope each and every parishioner will support this very important fund raiser by being a sponsor, playing a round of golf, purchasing a raffle ticket, and/or attending the delicious dinner in the church hall following the tournament. With your generous support, we continue to provide much-needed funds for Youth Ministry, an ever-expanding program for the teens and young adults of our parish. Thank you! 12th Annual Golf Committee The Discalced Carmelite Nuns cordially invite you to attend their annual Novena to St. Joseph from March 11th to March 19th, with Mass and Vespers celebrated at 4:00 p.m. each afternoon, in the Monastery Chapel. This year s Novena will be conducted by Father Brian. We hope you will join us for these nine days of prayer and reflection.

Dear Friends, Each February, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone asks us to join his efforts to provide programs and ministries to the people of the Archdiocese of San Francisco through our participation in the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal. We are called by God to be good stewards of all that He has given us, and this Appeal is an excellent way to respond to that call. In the Gospel of Luke, which we read from this year, we are reminded over and over again that we have all benefited from God s goodness. Each of us has been richly blessed and we can find some way to give back to God. We can become the hands and heart of Jesus through our participation in this Appeal. The ministries funded by the Appeal reach the poor, the homeless, youth, senior citizens, the disabled, the sick, and many, many other people in need. These ministries and services aid virtually every Catholic, and the Appeal also helps to spread the Good News to people who have not yet heard of Jesus Christ. Every Catholic at Our Lady of Loretto is asked, and because we are Catholic, expected, to participate in this Appeal. Our parish assessment this year is $135,000, which is $28,000 more than last year, the highest in Marin County. I ask you, I beg you, to consider making a donation this year so that we can meet our assessed amount. I personally pledge $1,350 to our parish assessment, which is 1% of our goal, $3.70 a day (who can t afford $3.70 a day? It s the cost of a cup of Starbucks Coffee per day!). I ask you to join me in giving 1% or more to the Appeal as well. All those who join me in this 1% Club will be treated to a Thank You Dinner in the Parish Hall sometime in May. I hope and pray that you will answer my call to at least match, or give more, than my personal donation. Of course, any amount that you can give will be greatly appreciated. In 2015, of the 1800 registered OLL families, 380 gave to the Appeal. Out of 380 parishioners who gave, we not only reached our goal of $107,000 but exceeded it by $40,000, which was given back to the parish to pay some outstanding bills. It is my hope and prayer that this year many more people than 1in 5 parishioners will help us meet our Parish Assessment. Any money raised, in addition to $135,000 will be used for our own parish needs. The perpetual maintenance costs on our older buildings are always a big drain on our resources. We need to do extensive work on all our buildings: the Church, Hall, School, Rectory, and Convent. We desperately need to update the bathrooms in our Hall. On Sunday, March 6 th, you will see a video on the AAA. The following Sunday, March 13 th, you will hear a short AAA Talk followed by an opportunity to fill out your Pledge Cards in Church. Pledge Cards will be in the pews that Sunday so that you can easily make your pledge. After March 13th, you will not hear about the AAA again from the pulpit. I will keep you informed on what s going on through the Sunday Bulletin. Again, I thank you for your careful consideration of this matter and your willingness to make a pledge. Enclosed is a brochure that gives you more information about this Appeal and the ministries and programs that it funds here in the Archdiocese. God bless you for your stewardship and for your support in the efforts of our Church to share our abundance with those in need. I am honored to be your pastor. Sincerely, Father Brian

The power of Paul s testimony that everything is junk but knowledge of Jesus and the power of his resurrection is a straight enough message. And, God knows, Paul had a crooked journey before his blinding insight straight from God. Through Isaiah, God reminds us all that the past great works were as nothing compared to the new creation. Can t you see it? we are asked, as if we are still wandering along our crooked lines. And there is no straighter line than that between the woman whose misery is intense and the God whose mercy in Jesus is deeper and more acute. You just can t beat this kind of good news. TODAY S READINGS First Reading The L does something new for the chosen people (Isaiah 43:16-21) or Ezekiel 37:12-14. Psalm The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy (Psalm 126) or Psalm 130. Second Reading The supreme good is knowing Jesus as Lord (Philippians 3:8-14) or Romans 8:8-11. Gospel A woman caught in the act of adultery is brought to Jesus. He challenges anyone without sin to throw the first stone (John 8:1-11) or John 11:1-45 [3-7, 17, 20-27, 33b-45]. JOB OPENING St. Anthony of Padua Parish-Novato is seeking a Director of Faith Formation and Evangelization to oversee catechetical programs. Applicants must be practicing Catholics with religious education experience and passion for formation & evangelization. Send resume or questions to Father Felix Lim at felix_lim@yahoo.com. FLOWERING The flower does not bear the root, but the root the flower... The rose is merely the evidence of the vitality of the root.

Atentamente, Padre Brian
