GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE I have been thinking about this newsletter for a while. What to say? Where to begin? And it came to me in a Stewardship Meeting. Every meeting, we begin with a prayer. Michelle Szczepanski, our Coordinator of Evangelization, Stewardship, and Faith Formation found this prayer in Tending the Talents, from the Catholic Leadership Institute. I d like to share it with you. Prayer for Leaders Dear Lord, We pray that you will create among us Catholic leaders, individuals made in your image who will apply your teachings in our lives and positively impact our families, our communities, and our Church. Help us to inspire those others to share their God-given talents, to do your will and to find a place in your kingdom. Make us leaders, Lord, leaders with strength and courage to follow You; leaders who make your love visible to the world in all our words and actions. Amen Brother Knights, we are the leaders. We are the ushers, the altar servers, Project Hunger, St. Vincent DePaul. We give our time and our talents, because we are Knights. The beginning of the fraternal year is upon us. Installation of Officers will be July 10th at 6:30. Budget meeting and the annual audit need to be scheduled. I know I can depend on the more experienced officers and members to guide me through these tasks. Last year was a very successful fraternal year. Thanks to Larry Seick for his work as Grand Knight. I only hope to follow on the past success of our council. Our biggest endeavor has turned out to be the Lenten Fish Fry. Six weeks in a row, one event each week! Even Brother Leo Pelzel got tired. Well, the dates have been saved, and we will try to continue the success, started by Brother Mike McCluskey, and built on by past Grand Knights Don Mangers and Larry Seick. Our parish Christmas party will be moving to a new venue at Kings Point. Brothers Larry and Don have agreed to co-chair the event. Brother Jim Raleigh chaired last year and did a commendable job. Our Italian Dinner was a smashing, sold out event. Thank you Mike McCluskey and Fred Kunkel for guiding the event. And a special big THANK YOU to John and Peggy Boa.. John for cooking a delicious meal, and Peggy for letting John do this on her birthday. Peggy, we don t have a date set for the dinner, but we promise you it won t be on your birthday. And let s not forget the Sock Hop! I hope to serve you as well as our past Grand Knights have done and hope for continued success of our council. Vivat Jesus, Nick Caleca GK Brother Knights PAGE 3
FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR D ear Brother Sir Knights Welcome to our new Assembly Year 2018/2019. I want to thank all of the officers who served faithfully during the past fraternal year. Also thanks to all who worked diligently at the pancake breakfasts and other events during the year, or participated in our Assembly in other ways. Congratulations to all of the newly elected officers. I am looking forward to serving with you during the coming year. I want to thank the Trustees for nominating me for Faithful Navigator and the membership for electing me. I am very much looking forward to being Faithful Navigator of the Assembly this year. I also want to welcome our newest 4th degree Sir Knight Bud Wiehe who went through the recent 4th degree exemplification at Bradenton. Since I am fairly new to the Assembly and have not had the opportunity to meet many of you yet, I want to provide some introductory information on myself. I transferred into Prince of Peace Assembly in January from Nicollet Assembly in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I joined the Knights of Columbus in 1981 and became a 4th degree Knight in 2009. I held several officer positions in the Nicollet Assembly, most recently the Faithful Pilot position. I have really appreciated the warm welcomes from many of you at the meetings and pancake breakfasts. I want to especially thank PFN Duncan for helping me learn about our Assembly and give me guidance on the Navigator office. With summer upon us, we will not have business meetings during the months of July or August. However, we will be having some other events. First and foremost is the installation of officers which will be the afternoon of Sunday July 22 at 1:30 pm at the Prince of Peace Church. I encourage all Sir Knights to attend this special event and ask that all incoming officers attend if at all possible. Bob Marrah, State Ceremonial Director will be conducting the installation. The installation will be followed by a dinner at 3:00 pm at the Sandpiper Grill. Wives are also invited for the installation and the dinner. I will send out an email with additional details. Other events this summer are the Audit on July 24 at 11:00 am in the Conesa Center and New Officer Training August 21 at 5:30 pm in the Conesa Center. The first pancake breakfast of the new fraternal year will be the fourth Sunday of September rather than the third Sunday. John Boa has agreed to again lead the pancake breakfasts. For those who helped this past year at breakfasts, please plan to help again. For those who have not helped in the past but would like to, I am sure John can find a spot for you. I hope all of you and your families are enjoying the summer and have safe travels wherever you may go. Please pray for our brothers who may be ill or in other need. I look forward to seeing many of you again soon. Vivat Jesus, Bill Ingham, Faithful Navigator 2018/2019 PAGE 4
