Parish Mission Statement Immaculate Conception Catholic Church celebrates the Eucharist and proclaims the gospel in worship through our love of God and for each other and with our ministry to the marginalized. We journey together in our faith, united by our trust in Christ s love and mercy and the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Staff Connection... March 26, 2017 NATIONAL CATHOLIC SISTERS WEEK (belated) The Mercies are coming! Circle your calendars for Sunday, April 2, 2:00 PM, Parish Hall Immaculate Conception Church Sister Jane Kenrick graduated in 1953 from Immaculate Conception and in 1957 joined the Sisters of Mercy. In 1965, five Sisters of Mercy left Rochester to begin a ministry in Santiago, Chile. Sister Jane joined them in 1966 and was there until 2016. During these years she experienced the overthrow of Salvador Allende in 1973 and the dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet. As this was going on around her, she was involved in a Parish Ministry and in the formation of training Chilean women interested in becoming Sisters of Mercy. She was focused in working with poor women and helping the rich and the poor minister together through social ministry projects. Sister Jane was also involved with helping those afflicted with AIDS. As a little girl, in Binghamton, NY, Sister Madeline Rockwell wondered what it would be like to be a member of a religious order. Upon moving to Ithaca, she eventually became interested in being a Mercy Associate. While visiting our Motherhouse in 2002, she expressed that she felt at home. Her wonderment became a reality as she became a candidate in 2004 to become a Sister of Mercy and was received as a Novice in 2006. The Mercy Novitiate was in Laredo, Texas, so Sister Madeline went there to study Theology and learn more about the Sisters of Mercy. While there she ministered at the Lamar Beuni Vergara Education Center and at Casa de Misericordia. After her 16 month novitiate was completed she applied to continue at Casa de Misericordia, which is a domestic violence shelter, where she became a children s advocate. She was there until returning to Rochester in 2013. As we listen to their stories, let us also remember Sister Judith Kenrick (RIP) and Sister Barb Stinard (RIP). Seeing Sister Jane and Sister Madeline were involved with women and children issues in their respective ministries, it was decided that it would be a perfect time to have our BABY SHOWER for BIRTHRIGHT. Items which would be appreciated include: diapers (newborn size 5) baby clothes (onesies 3T), baby food and formula, bibs, crib sheets and blankets, hats, socks, and stuffed animals. Hope to see you on April 2nd, 2:00 PM, in our Parish Hall for conversation and light refreshments. Seeking Nominations for Parish Council Serving on the Parish Council is an excellent way to get involved in what is happening in our parish. Each year several terms expire and we need new members to fill them. We are looking at four vacancies and are seeking nominations for replacements. You can nominate yourself or someone you feel would be an asset to the council. More information will be following as well as nomination forms. An informational meeting for new candidates will occur in May and new members will be selected in June. Please consider joining this important team. The Week Ahead...
