This is COUNT ME IN weekend for our parish Stewardship efforts. All parishioners of St. Thomas Aquinas are asked to respond this weekend to the call for increased regular giving to the parish by returning a completed Commitment Card during Mass this weekend. In recent weeks, Fr. John and members of our parish community have spoken about Stewardship and the need to increase our giving to assist the parish in meeting rising costs. Please consider a commitment plan from the brochure that is best suited to your own circumstances. Your generous response will ensure our parish s ability to accurately plan for the future. A Commitment Card will be distributed during Mass this weekend. All parishioners are asked to place their completed form in the offertory collection basket. Those who pick up a form after Mass are asked to please return it as soon as possible, either at Mass next weekend, through the mail, or by dropping it off at the parish office. A big THANK YOU to those of you who have already made a commitment to embrace stewardship by increasing their offering. PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR COMMITMENT BOTH PRAYERFULLY AND CAREFULLY... We understand that finances vary greatly from family to family, and that some families are able to commit a large amount, and some are able to commit a more modest amount due to fixed or limited incomes. We are grateful for every response, and will receive each gift in the spirit in which it is given. Remember that we can never outdo God's generosity. This is our opportunity to say Thank you, Lord, for all of my blessings!
From the Desk of our Pastor Dear Mothers, This weekend we take time to reflect on the gift of motherhood. You go through a lot of hardships to raise us, your children. You give yourselves totally for the wellbeing of others. For this and for the many blessings you bring to us, we give tribute and we pray for you. Mothers, we thank you for raising us and giving us a model to follow, a model taken from Mary, the Mother of Jesus who shared her unselfish love with her family. We invoke her protection over you today and always. This weekend we also remember the mothers who are sick. Some are not able to come to Mass due to health issues. We also pray for you whose children are not home with you due to various reasons. Also for those mothers whom God has called back to himself. For all they did for us in the past and for all you continue to do for us today, we thank God. Let us also pray for the mothers who need our support and prayers; those experiencing loss or disappointment. Through our actions and prayers may we make them aware that St. Thomas Aquinas community is in solidarity with them and they are not alone, or forgotten. John Community Wedding Celebration Any couples who are married by the civil court and would like to be blessed by the Catholic are invited to join the community wedding ceremony that will be held on August 18, 2018 at 12 noon. For more information please contact the parish office. Mother s Day Dinner Dance Saturday, May 19 2 PM to 6 PM The Guadalupanos are hosting a special fundraiser on Saturday May 19 in the Parish Hall. Your support will help raise funds for services and community projects. The Mother s Day dinner dance will feature music by the Brasas Band, a great dinner and door prizes. Tickets are $25 and are available in the parish office or through a Guadalupanos Member. If you are not currently a member, please consider joining us. We meet monthly and we are dedicated to supporting St. Thomas Aquinas church and our parishioners. Msgr. Henry Gomez s 60 th Anniversary of Ordination Celebration Sunday, May 20 th Msgr. Henry Gomez was ordained into the priesthood of the Los Angeles Archdiocese in May 1958. He served various parishes and has been on numerous pastoral committees. Msgr. has been retired for many years yet still faithfully serves the St. Thomas Aquinas community whenever there is a need, presiding at weekday and weekend masses and other liturgical celebrations. As a community of faith, we would like to send a message of gratitude and hold a celebration in honor of Msgr. Gomez s 60 years of loving service in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The celebration will take place on Sunday, May 20 th following the 1:30 pm mass. Please place a hold on your calendar, more details will be forthcoming.

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN DID YOU KNOW? Know the signs of abuse and talk to your children about them Some signs of abuse are too obvious to hide. Unexplained bruises and injuries may indicate abuse at home, and children who are close to a victim may notice these injuries more quickly than an adult, because they spend more time together. Children also share secrets with each other, and if a child is being abused, he/ she may be more comfortable confiding in a close friend than an adult.
