Call to Confession Confession The Reverend Erika Funk Prayer of Confession The sanctuary flowers are given to the glory of God and in honor of the marriage of Mary (Molly) Nicholson McCrory and Douglas Scott Schultz, Jr. on November 18, 2017. The cornucopia display is given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Dowd Maye by his parents. The rosebuds in the sanctuary celebrate the births of Robert Harris (Hart) Pratt, son of Beau and Amanda Pratt, and Elizabeth Faye (Ellis) Potts, daughter of Will and Laura Potts. All: One: God of heaven and earth, we ask your forgiveness for the devotion we show to the things of this world. We seek to find comfort, healing, and wholeness through the marketplace. We lean on ideas and dreams to carry us through times of deep emotion. We do not seek out the holy, but expect to be able to purchase it and buy our way into the kingdom. Forgive us, O God and shine your light in our lives that the things of this world will be taken like a thief in the night. Our only true and present hope is in you, heal us and make us whole in the name of your son, Jesus Christ. In silent prayer, let us confess to God the things we choose not to speak aloud. A time of silence will be kept. *Response (Hymn No. 654) in the lord i ll ever be thankful Choir sings once, then congregation joins. In the Lord I ll ever be thankful; in the Lord I will rejoice! Look to God, do not be afraid. Lift up your voices, the Lord is near; Lift up your voices, the Lord is near. Assurance of Pardon One: Friends, believe the good news. All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. *Response (Hymn No. 643, stanza 3) nun danket alle gott All praise and thanks to God, who reigns in highest heaven, to Father and to Son and Spirit now be given: the one eternal God, whom heaven and earth adore, the God who was, and is, and shall be evermore. *Hymn No. 367 1 Come, ye thankful people, come; raise the song of harvest home. All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin. God, our Maker, doth provide for our wants to be supplied. Come to God s own temple, come; raise the song of harvest home. 2 All the world is God s own field, fruit in thankful praise to yield, wheat and tares together sown, unto joy or sorrow grown. First the blade, and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear. Lord of harvest, grant that we wholesome grain and pure may be. Come, Ye Thankful People, Come 3 For the Lord our God shall come, and shall take the harvest home; from each field shall in that day all offenses purge away; give the angels charge at last in the fire the tares to cast, but the fruitful ears to store in God s garner evermore. 4 Even so, Lord, quickly come to thy final harvest home. Gather thou thy people in, free from sorrow, free from sin, there forever purified, in thy presence to abide: come, with all thine angels, come; raise the glorious harvest home! *Hymn No. 37 Let All Things Now Living 1 Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving to God our Creator triumphantly raise; who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us, by guiding us on to the end of our days. God s banners are o er us; pure light goes before us, a pillar of fire shining forth in the night: till shadows have vanished, all fearfulness banished, as forward we travel from light into light. 2 By law God enforces, the stars in their courses, the sun in its orbit obediently shine; the hills and the mountains, the rivers and fountains, the depths of the ocean proclaim God divine. We too should be voicing our love and rejoicing; with glad adoration, a song let us raise, till all things now living unite in thanksgiving: to God in the highest, hosanna and praise!
