Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 7, 2016 Dear Friends, This weekend we are celebrating the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time and in today s Gospel from St. Luke, Jesus continues to teach the disciples (and us as well) about the disciples appropriate response to possessions in light of the coming of the reign of God, where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. We heard about the bigger barns of the rich man last week and the snippets of teaching in the Gospel this weekend follow-up on the lesson of how much is too much ands how much do we really need? And in light of the coming of the reign of God, which we always HAVE to consider, what stuff do we truly need? And our answer MUST BE, what we truly need is who we have IN JESUS! What riches we must own is our relationship and our life IN CHRIST JESUS. Of course, questions ALWAYS come up about well, we have to live and we have to eat and we have to have clothes and we have to have a place to live and we have to... and we have to... But we have to MATCH that we have to with HOW MUCH of what do we HAVE to HAVE? Mother Theresa and others with the same spirit have said and written, live simply so that other may simply live. Is that our motto as well? Do we live simply and if not can we begin to do so? That seems to be the sum of today s Gospel! I will CONTINUE to seek your monthly financial support of the Capital Roof Project during the course of our campaign, because it is important to us all. Your $25 each month goes a long way to pay this portion of the project and your $25 a month will assure us of the money to be there when the next phase of roofing takes place. Please consider, if you haven t already, to support the Project. In the meantime, the roofers have done an excellent job on the flat portion of the School roof and are moving along quite steadily. The timeline is that they will be completed with this portion by August 12 th, with some additional hit-list items to be completed by October 15 th. Though the weather has been HOT, the no-rain has been a HUGE plus! Thank you Lord! And THANK YOU for your continued generosity in the Sunday collection and may WE be BLESSED with abundance through your financial support of the Capital Roof Project. Father John

This conference was lead by three esteemed American sacred musicians: Jane Irvine, handbell extraordinaire, Kristina Langlois, church organist and composer, and Zebulon Highben, church music director and choral sacred composer. This mini convention had myself and the other attendees stretch our imaginations and creativity to learn how to engage the Church in worship through our musicianship and liturgical planning. There was a special workshop just for children s participation in the Church as well, which has given me some ideas for the years to come. On Monday evening, we joined together to rehearse and then perform an entire hymn festival based around the theme of Holy week. It was a great way to rejuvenate my musician s soul, and I m very excited to use what I have learned in the next year at St. Mary s! Traditional Choir, Contemporary Choir, and Youth Choir are off for the summer. All choir members are welcome to sing up in the loft during weekend masses. Summer is a perfect time to audition for involvement in one of our ensembles! If you are interested in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see me after mass up in the loft. Please contact the music ministry office for more information: 440.243.3877 ext 27.
