Third Sunday in Ordinary Time The beginning of the gospel according to Luke ; To grasp what this means we must clearly recognize that a gospel is not a collection of anecdotes about Jesus and his teachings. Every evangelist is a witness to the Son of God. He responds to the question posed by those who have met Jesus in the living word of the community. Who are you, Lord? Each of these witnesses reports his faith in the Lord according to the history of his own community s experiences and reflections of Jesus. This explains why no two gospels are exactly the same. Nevertheless, there is only one Gospel because there is only one Christ. Luke sets Jesus first preaching in the synagogue at Nazareth. Jesus comments on a passage he has just read from Isaiah. He limits his homily to a single affirmation, Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled His life bears out what he has proclaimed as the rest of Luke s gospel will demonstrate. Be Vigilant Dear Parishioners, please be alert on a regular basis when you and your vehicles are on Parish grounds. In the past there has been break-ins to vehicles with valuables left inside cars. This past Sunday during the 12 noon Mass, a parishioner left Mass to find that the spare tire and its rim had been stolen off the outside of her Jeep which was parked near the rectory. Perhaps the Parish needs to look at hiring a security service to patrol the parish parking during Saturday afternoon and Sunday Masses. We know that so many people are desperate, deprived and depraved and thus turn to stealing from good people attending Mass. Our consolation is that God witnessed the theft and harm and they will have to answer to God in the meantime before their judgment before the Lord, we can be vigilant and smart about protecting our property as best we can from the depraved of society. You cannot imagine how many people regularly and blatantly come to the parish office with outright lies to manipulate us in this day and age. When dealing with the depraved and the deprived commit to memory this great adage: Today be gentle as a lamb but wise as a serpent. FYI!!! During Lent there will be 2 daily Masses; check weekly schedule for update. Many Thanks Dear Parishioners, Now that the Christmas Season has ended, I wish to extend my sincere gratitude for the many cards, gifts and goodies which I received from so many of you during this past Christmas Season. May God s peace and blessings be with you and your loved ones in this New Year. Peace and only good things, Fr. Vincent Life Teen Update This Sunday there will be two, that's right, two12:00 noon masses at St Therese. We will have the regular mass in the church and a teaching mass in the gym for the youth and anyone else interested in learning more about the meaning of the rituals and prayers that define our Catholic mass. Lunch will be served after mass. Thank you and God Bless, Dennis RE-BURIAL OF BONES OF THE ORIGINAL SETTLERS OF ALAMEDA In 2003 a small section of the original Campo Santo (cemetery) of Alameda which surrounded the original church was excavated. Archeologists unearthed approximately 78 bodies. A few days ago the Archeology Department of the University of New Mexico (UNM) returned the bones and small artifacts that had been unearthed so that they could be re-entered in our cemetery. We will celebrate a Mass on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 9:00 a. m. for the repose of their soul Requiescat in Pace We pray to our Father to give us strength during this difficult time.
