At Christmas all of us were offered a copy of the book Why We re Catholic by Trent Horn. Have you read it yet? Why do we believe that God exists, that he became a man and came to save us,? What looks like a wafer of bread is actually His body. Why do we believe that he inspired a holy book and founded an infallible Church to teach us the one true way to live? Beginning with how we can know reality and ending with our hope of eternal life. It s the perfect way to help skeptics and seekers (or Catholics who want to firm up their faith) understand the evidence that bolsters our belief-and brings us joy. 100th Birthday Celebration! WHITE / GREEN JANUARY 27, 2019 I AM A SINNER Pope Francis: his words to us as pope. I am a sinner. It is not a figure of speech. I am a sinner but I trust in the infinite mercy and patience of our Lord Jesus Christ, and I accept Him in a spirit of penance. It is an honest statement; we can all relate. It helps us understand and accept Pope Francis. His friends describe him as a man of prayer, a humble man who spends much time in prayer. What is his preferred way to pray? I pray the breviary every morning. I like to pray with the psalms. Then, later, I celebrate Mass. I pray the Rosary. I really prefer adoration in the evening, even when I get distracted and think of other things, or even fall asleep praying. In the evening then, between seven and eight o clock, I stay in front of the Blessed Sacrament for an hour in Adoration. Pope Francis continued: Prayer for me is always a prayer full of memory, of recollection of my own history or what the Lord has done in his Church I ask myself: What have I done for Christ? What am I doing for Christ? What should I do for Christ? But above all I also know that the Lord remembers me. I can forget about Him, but I know that he never, ever forgets me. Christ never forgets any of us. We should remember Him in Adoration. Think about what the pope says. The pope does an hour of adoration every day. You can volunteer for adoration once a week or every month. It will be time well spent; join the Pope in a prayerful nap. For information about Adoration call the office at 855-9069. ***************************** RCIA Our Early Leaders This week our faith journey in RCIA will begin with the People of God. We will learn about Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Saul, David, Solomon and those in between. Did you know that Abraham s wife, Sarah, was very old when she gave birth to Isaac? How about Joseph being sold by his brothers? There are many other stories that perhaps you aren t familiar with in our church history. Come join us our session Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the parish hall. Coffee is always on and everyone is welcome to attend. All Are Welcome Your RCIA team ***************************** Third Sunday in Ordinary Time January 27, 2019 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. Luke 4:18a
