EARLY BULLETIN DEADLINES BULLETIN DATE ITEMS DUE BY January 6 December 27 LETTER from the ARCHBISHOP Christmas 2018 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Rejoice! The weeks of Advent waiting are over, and Christ is born! We rejoice in our Savior s birth - remembering the great gift of faith He has given us through the mystery of His incarnation and the saving power of His death and resurrection. Each year, the people of our archdiocese have been asked to make a special gift on Christmas Day to support our seminarians at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. The men of our seminary, who have responded to Christ s call to follow Him, are truly a gift to the Church and to the Archdiocese of St. Louis. It is these men who will bring the faith given to us by Christ 2000 years ago to future generation here in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. I ask you, once again, to pray for vocations and for all our priests and seminarians. I also ask you to be generous in your donation to the Christmas Day collection, which helps pay the day-to-day expenses and maintenance of our seminary. Please be assured of my prayers for you during the season of Christmas. May the Lord of life come into your hearts and homes in a special way during this holy time of year. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson Archbishop of St. Louis The clergy and office staff of All Souls Parish wish you and yours a very blessed Christmas Season. May our Savior bless you with happiness, health and prosperity in the New Year, 2019 Fr. Jim, Deacon Sam, Ruth, Susan & Mimi HOLY DAYS MASS SCHEDULE CHRISTMAS EVE 2018 Mon. Dec. 24th All Souls: 10pm ~ St. Jude: 4pm CHRISTMAS DAY 2018 Tues. Dec. 25th All Souls: 7:30am & 10:30am ~ St. Jude: 9am MARY, MOTHER OF GOD Tues. Jan. 1, 2019 Holy Day of Obligation All Souls: 5pm Vigil & 10:30am ~ St. Jude: 9am ALL SOULS CHRISTMAS EVE CONCERT and MASS The quiet, gentle songs of Advent will be performed by the All Souls Parish Choir on Tuesday, December 24th at 9:15pm. You won t want to miss this beautiful presentation of the hymns that bring our hearts and minds closer to the miracle that is about to be celebrated...the birth of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The 10pm Christmas Eve Vigil Mass will immediately follow. Please join us as we draw our community together for this opportunity to reflect, pray, and worship as a parish family.
WORKBOOKS for LECTORS All Souls has purchased helpful workbooks for our Proclaimers of the Word. These books will assist you in preparing for the Sunday readings offering pronunciations, definitions, tips on speaking, scripture background, understanding and much more. The Lector Workbooks are a very valuable aid! Lectors, please pick up your copy in the sacristy & check off your name on the list provided. A ROSE FOR LIFE The Knights of Columbus will be handing out paper roses after each Mass this weekend. Each rose will contain a space for your name and address as a statement of your support for Pro-Life. These roses will be delivered to Missouri Senator, Josh Hawley before the March for Life in Washington, DC on January 18, 2019 ENERGY SAVINGS You may recall that just before Easter, in March of 2018, the parish converted all of the light bulbs in church to LED lamps. The wish was to brighten the lighting and to reduce the monthly electric bill. Well, we did it! A year ago, in November 2017, electric use in church consumed 4490 kilowatts for 31 days at a cost of $482.13. This past November 2018, a total of 2140 kilowatts were consumed for 31 days at a cost of $266.09. LED lighting has made a difference! For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy. Lk 1:44 When you hear the scripture readings and Gospel reading each Sunday, do you leap for joy? If not, don t blame the lector or priest, rather look inside yourself. Do you prepare for Mass each week or do you just show up & expect to be entertained? We are called to be active participants, not passive by standers.
