CO-PASTOR'S ANNUAL REPORT Rev. Timothy Coombs and Rev. Kathy Gorman-Coombs Twenty-five years! The time truly has flown by. As we look at the pictures from long ago we wonder how we got here so fast. We've said it during all the festivities, but we want to say it again, "Thank you for being such a wonderful congregation. It is an honor and a pleasure to be your pastors." As we reflect on this past year there is much about which to give thanks to God. Early in the year, after a process of discussion and exploration that began in 2013, the Session adopted the "Trinity Statement" a short description of who we are as a congregation. We also approved a list of "Theological Statements (see following page)" that give more detail about the ways in which Trinity members believe. Both of these statements were designed to recognize the diversity of belief and outlook encompassed by Trinity members, while also helping folks have an idea of who we are and what to expect here. You'll find the "Trinity Statement" on the front of this Annual Report, and the Theological Statements beginning below this report. We experienced new mission opportunities throughout the year, such as the Midnight Run (thanks Megan), the Women's trip to Guatemala that included Linda Rockinger, Cara Molyneaux, Anne Murray, and Kim Koza, as well as Kathy, a trip to Haiti for Tim, Steve and Rhett Parsons, and the Vendor Fair (thanks Wendi and Megan) that raised significant funds for mission. Under Barret Germain's direction and Maria Elmer's accompanying, the choir (and friends) put on a fantastic concert to an overflow crowd. We tried some new or resurrected some former things in worship this year. For instance, we were able to "skype in" the team that went on the Midnight Run in worship. We also had a service using various prayer stations throughout the sanctuary. There were a few sermon series throughout the year ending with "It Could Be A Wonderful Life" during Advent. Also, the Christian Seder returned after a brief hiatus. There were a number of events and opportunities begun simply because members wanted to give them a try, such as the family camp out at Camp Arrowhead (Thanks Polly), the Daniel Plan (Thanks Nicky), and the Vendor Fair for mission (Thanks Wendy). To us, such efforts are signs of a healthy and vital congregation. There were numerous events that continued but even stronger than before. Our VBS attendance grew by 50 percent this year. The annual inter-generational work camp to Woodberry Crossing enjoyed its 12th year. Trinity's youth group and Church school seem to be bouncing back to form as well.

And last but not least, continuing on what I hope is a trend started in 2013, we showed positive growth in membership. (See Cara's Clerk report for the numbers). Of course, there is a heartfelt sadness in the passing of Ginny Steenrod this year, though we comfort ourselves knowing that she and Oliver are together again. We miss them both terribly even as we celebrate all they meant to us. As 2015 dawns, we look forward to sharing new experiences ("Trinity Night Out" on January 9; the "Freeway" small group experience) and continuing what's "working" (VBS, Woodberry Crossing, Jail Ministry, another Camp out?) and to growing together in faith and exploration of what it means for us to "Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God."

Trinity Presbyterian Church Theological Statements Adopted by Session February 26, 2014 Trinity Presbyterian Church seeks to live into the faith described by Micah 6:8: "Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God" We believe that God is the creator and the source of all tilings. God is with us always and is love in all of its manifestations. We witness the love of God primarily in Jesus Christ and experience God today through the enduring witness of the Holy Spirit, who is always with us, strengthening and empowering us to live our faith. Faith is experienced as trusting in God's promises in our life and basing our life on them. Through Jesus of Nazareth, God became flesh and dwelt among us, (John 1:14). In Jesus, the fullness of justice, kindness, and the presence of God were expressed; his commitment to this continued even when it meant his death on the cross. But death is not the final word. God raised Jesus to life. Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we know that life, justice, and God's loving kindness will always prevail, even beyond the earthly life we know. We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). Grace means God extends salvation to us freely through Jesus Christ. We do not earn it. Salvation begins in this life and continues to grow into the eternity of God. We are chosen by God for both salvation and service. Accepting Jesus Christ means to live as his disciple. Living as a disciple of Jesus Christ means to receive him as the manifestation of God on earth, and therefore to follow his Great Commandment, "You shall love the Lord God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength..." and "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," (Mark 12:29-31). Statement on Mission In our ministry we respond with agility to the needs of people in our congregation, in our community and around the world. Our deacons and our mission committee lead this response by guiding the congregation's offerings of work, money, other donations and prayer. People are encouraged to follow God's call to mission in their individual lives as well as through the church. Statement on Educational Ministry At Trinity Presbyterian Church we seek to provide a loving, caring, and positive place for children, youth and adults to explore their faith in God and express themselves, while being guided by the church community through their spiritual walk based on Scripture, community service and fellowship.

ADMINISTRATION ANNUAL REPORT Jen Pietrow, Administration Chair 2014 was a year of change for the Administration of Trinity. We said a fond farewell to our wonderful church secretary, Susan Vine, who had things incredibly streamlined and who went above and beyond the call of duty for us, in all she did. Her enthusiasm and talents are appreciated and she will be missed, I'd like to extend a big welcome to Wendi Brandow, our new secretary! Wendi is a member of Trinity and a welcome addition to the staff here at the church. Tim and Kathy are excited to the prospects of growth they can envision incorporating all of Wendi's many talents. Welcome aboard! As the interim chair for only one year, my main task (other than finding a new secretary it turns out) was to put together a pictoral church directory. This was done (and redone), and the directory should arrive any day now. I've seen the proof and think you will enjoy the results. As Kathy mentions, in the directory, "Pictoral Directories provide, quite literally, a 'snapshot' of a congregation at a particular time... showing members and families as they look, right now, as well as pictures of activities and events that have taken place recently. " Having several of the ones from years past, I can say that this is very true! It's a yearbook of sorts for the congregation. A big thank you goes out to Nancy Virkler as well! Nancy keeps us in office supplies using a variety of creative and cost effective ways. Thank you for your time in coordinating and taking all of the recycled ink cartridges back, for shopping when the church is short of something, and for finding coupons and taking advantage of sales and more! Your time and attention to this large task, is a valuable gift to the church. Thank you to all who submitted articles to the Trinity Newsletter! And to Wayne Virkler who keeps our website (scotiatrinity.org) updated, and to Tim who started us on Facebook and to Wendi who keeps us aware of the weekly service, and who's counting and ushering. Keeping connected through these avenues of communication are an important part of feeling a part of all that goes on here at the church.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION ANNUAL REPORT Jennifer Parsons, Education Chair We had a great year in the Education department in 2014. We started the year with curriculum that I found on an old book case from many years past. The teachers' pooled resources based on the old and added some really fun activities to make it feel fresh. We used this curriculum for the entire year up until the advent season. For the advent season we started working on the play which 4 of our youths developed with help from an adult leader. It was such a creative play the kids made me so proud. The play and dinner was a huge success. We had another successful VBS in August. We teamed up with First Reform Church. Attendance was up this year from last. Once again with the help of other volunteers and Tim's story telling gift we created our own curriculum. We are planning to do it again for 2015.

DEACON'S ANNUAL REPORT 2014 Polly Benjamin This year the Board of Deacons has sponsored and/or supported a number of church events. o Chef Nicky prepared food for Seder dinner enjoyed by a number of families. o Polly organized a church campout, a new event that arose from our leadership retreat. o The deacons funded the Vacation Bible School family dinner, which provided fellowship o for the participants in the program and their families. A retiree gathering/ice cream social was held on the lawn this summer, o This year marked our Pastors' 25th Anniversary and the Deacons participated in much of the planning and preparations for the events celebrating this milestone. o The Deacons lent financial support to the mission committee, which held the CEDEPCA dinner. o We hosted the reception during Pastor Tim's annual retelling of A Christmas Carol. o The annual Advent dinner was once again organized by the Deacons, o Each week, coffee hour followed worship. The weekly snacks were organized by the Deacons, who took turns hosting once each month and recruiting volunteers for the remaining days. Summer coffee hour continued this year with a basket prepared by the Deacons and set out by a churchgoer. Fair trade coffee is always served as it is at all of our events. This year we continued our tradition of reaching out to those in need of support and comfort. o Through a partnership with Mary Ellen Giroux, the Deacons have provided prayer shawls to church members and to those in the broader community. More than 18 shawls were distributed this year. o We sent Christmas-themed care packages to our college students who are away from home. Care packages were sent to four first-time recipients. Six additional students received cards with Subway gift cards and small ornaments. o The Deacons have sent many cards and notes of encouragement and condolence. Gifts of food, flower arrangements or gift cards were also given to some, depending on their particular need. Approximately 30 cards and notes were sent by deacons during 2014. o New this year, care baskets created by Dottie Potochnik have been given to a few church members in need of support. Since September, two baskets were delivered. o The Deacons' fund contributed to the jail ministry by providing $300 in stamps for the inmates to send their own correspondence throughout the year.

We appreciate the opportunity to serve on behalf of the congregation and thank each person for their generous donations, which allow us to continue this work each year.

EVANGELISM COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT 2014 Darren Gundrum, Evangelism Committee Chair Once again EVANGELISM was encompassed throughout all of Trinity's work via mission, and our various ministries. Many of our newer members were participating in and running activities within the congregation before there were officially "joined." This speaks to the power of the spirit moving through Trinity this past year. All of this only helped to strengthen our evangelism efforts as witnessed by the welcoming of new members into the church. In addition we provided: Funding for advertising for VBS Funding for promotion of the Spring Choir Concert Continued communication to all members through Session members Men's Outing - Rock Climbing attended by 10 or 12, some not even members yet Continued to support all Mission projects Activation of new membership Increased activation of regular membership Shepherds for our new members Trinity members who came to speak at New Member Orientations and mixer Welcomed New Members - including 2 to join in January 2015 Outreach into the community with the rest of the congregation through the SPRING CONCERT and VBS and MIDNIGHT RUN. A big thank you to all who helped to make Evangelism what it is at Trinity, a simple sharing of our faith and putting our faith into action that leads others to us.

MISSION COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT 2014 Megan Beauchamp, Mission Chair First, sincere thanks to the following dedicated, passionate and creative members of the Mission Committee; Steve Parsons, Pat Wheeler, Rev. Bill Dodge, Rev. Kathy Gorman-Coombs, Mariellen Boomhower, Linda Rockinger and Jean Hayes. Once again, Trinity's "mission heart" was demonstrated by the increased budget from $6535 ($ 1000 judicatory/ "Shared Witness Support") to $ 6,800 ($ 1000 judicatory) in the year 2014. This year, as many Trinity members felt called to go on international Mission trips the committee felt it was very important to support those folks whom often incur a large personal financial cost for the trips. We were pleased to use $1,200 of our budget for 6 "scholarships"; one for a "Young Adult Volunteer" (YAV) with the Presbyterian Church, two for Haiti and three for Guatemala, The allocation of the remaining $4,600 can be seen on the attached spreadsheet. Beyond what Trinity supports financially, there is a great deal members support with their time, energy and passion. The CROP Walk, summer lunch (two weeks), Adopt A Family, School Supplies, Woodberry Crossing, SICM Day of Service, SICM food collection Sunday (monthly), One Great Hour of Sharing and Peacemaking Offerings, Jail Ministry, Patty's Place, Guatemala Partnership, weekly Mission Yearbook slides... the list goes on and on! There were several new or special events this year; - We collected roughly three suitcases of baby items, medical and hygiene items to send to Haiti (first with Tim/Rhett/Steve and again on Tim's second trip). - The "Haiti Dinner" at which the folks that attended the February trip shared stories and photographs. A free-will donation at that event raised roughly $200 for the Haiti Mission School! - Late in 2014 a "coin tube" was added to the Fellowship table, which will collect exactly 260 quarters or $65, which is the cost for one student for one year at the Haiti Mission School. Even our pocket change can do great works. - At an event, which was a cross between mission and fellowship, about 15 folks gathered to make over 100 homemade stamped cards. The cards were then utilized by the incarcerated women that Mariellen Boomhower works with.

- The "CEDEPCA Dinner" welcomed representatives from this organization to speak about their work in Guatemala. A free-will donation at the event raised over $325 for CEDEPCA! - Trinity supported the "Midnight Run" by supplying a breakfast run. This was truly an "all hands on deck" type event and roughly 30-40 folks were involved by baking, cooking with Chef Nicky, packing food, and providing donations of money, new/used clothing and supplies. - Wendi Brandow organized a "Vendor Fair" as a fundraiser for the Mission Committee. This event was a very big success and raised over $700! Mark your calendar for November 14th, 2015 for next year's Vendor/Craft Fair. - At the Vendor Fair and throughout Advent there was a "Heifer Living Market" display set up for Trinity folks and vendor guests to purchase animals, bees, fish and trees as a means of alternative Christmas giving. Additional alternative gift options were also available via the Presbyterian Giving Catalog. Daily, members of Trinity live Micah 6. The mission committee spending and activities are just a small snapshot of the awe-inspiring things Trinity folks do! Our congregation is blessed with such gifts in its people, another verse comes to mind as well; 1 Peter 4:10 "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms".

Nominating Committee. 2014 Jean Hayes, Nominating Committee Chair The 2014 nominating committee consisted of Wayne Virkler (deacon); Jean Hayes (ruling elder and chair); and Mariellen Boomhower, Mary Ellen Giroux, and Louise Gundrum (chosen by the congregation at large). The committee presented the following candidates for election by the congregation to serve in 2015: For 3-year terms as ruling elder: Mariellen Boomhower (to serve as mission committee chair) Linda Rockinger (to serve as worship committee chair) Glenn Pietrow (to serve as evangelism committee chair) For a 1-year term as ruling elder: John Yagielski For the 2015 nominating committee from the congregation at large: Mary Ellen Giroux Louise Gundrum Joe Savoie

PROPERTY ANNUAL REPORT 2014 Amy Jessup, Property Chair In 2014 we began to address the energy upgrades highlighted in our NYCERDA conducted in 2013. High on the list of changes was replacing the 20-year-old refrigerator in the kitchen, a fix that will pay for itself in energy savings in three years according to the audit. This was the simplest fix, but we were just getting "warmed up," Last winter we applied for a grant to Albany Presbytery's Trustees to help us replace our 53-year-old sanctuary furnace as well as replace our single pane windows, decaying doors, and upgrade our lighting to LED's and high efficiency fluorescents. The good news is that we were awarded a grant to cover half the cost of the furnace and a nointerest loan to cover the rest of the cost. We have been able to replace the furnace without needing to use the loan because had enough money in the property reserves. This spring we are expecting to receive a similar award, half grant/half loan, to cover the other parts of our application, namely the windows, doors and lighting upgrades. John Schwarz graciously has offered his assistance in the installation so as to help keep our costs down. Also, Dave Strack, Bev Burnett's friend is working with us to replace the wooden emergency exits out of the Pryde and Storage rooms with metal doors. The property committee would like to thank everyone who volunteered in our annual spring and fall clean up days. Our building is getting more use than in previous years and so it "takes a village" to keep it looking nice. A special thanks is extended to "Laki" Rahman, our able and efficient cleaning person who quietly goes about her work on Saturday mornings. If you see her about the church, be sure to say thanks. Extra special thanks go to Tom Helenek, the committee's Session representative who mowed the lawn all summer. Also, thanks to Amy Helenek who cleaned the church when Laki returned to her native Bangladesh for her son's wedding this summer.

Worship Committee Annual Report 2014 Don Wheeler, Worship Committee Chair Worship is the central activity around which Trinity's community gathers. Providing for the weekly and special event services is a main focus of the Pastors and supported by the Worship chairman and small groups that meet as necessary to plan and implement worship themes and seasonal events. Maintaining the highest quality worship experience possible week after week is important and many elements must be in place for that to happen. Scheduling ushers and announcers weekly, and preparing Communion and scheduling servers monthly are ongoing duties. Thanks to all who have volunteered to take part in these important aspects of worship. In addition, at this year's officers' retreat, it was decided to have greeters at the annex door to welcome regulars as well as assist visitors. While this has been handled by Elders and Deacons, any others who might like to volunteer to be greeters in the future are welcomed. A couple of special events took place this year and needed the support of volunteers. We happily celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of Tim and Kathy's ministry at Trinity. Part of that recognition was a special service held the first Sunday in September. At that time we reflected on the history we have shared and honored our pastors for their dedication and leadership. A committee of volunteers met throughout the summer to plan that service and others willingly took part in leading the service. We revived the Christian Seder dinner on Holy Thursday. This had been a regular event at Trinity at one time but hadn't been held for several years. Interest was expressed and, while planning dinners is not generally under the Worship "umbrella" a small committee took leadership in organizing the event. With the help of Chef Nicky, who prepared the meal, and a group of volunteers who took care of the many aspects involved in the traditional dinner, it was well attended and offered an enlightening and meaningful experience. Decorating for seasonal occasions, ordering poinsettias and lilies, creating new banners, ordering worship supplies like candles, and overseeing the sanctuary are all items on the Worship "to do" list. Thanks to all the volunteers who have taken part in this. The music program at Trinity is exemplary. Considerable thanks go to Barret Germain for his leadership and to Maria Elmer for her dedication to the program. The choir of volunteer singers has grown this year and for a second year provided a concert in the spring to showcase and celebrate the quality of the music program. In response to comments that the early Christmas Eve service last year lacked special music, the choir sang at both services this year. You may have noticed that the word "volunteers" appears often in this report. That was done deliberately to show how much of what is accomplished relies on those willing and generous enough to give of their time and talents. It is especially helpful when people come

forward on their own to offer their skills. With many helpers to share the duties the less burdensome for all. So don't wait to be asked. Contact anyone on Session and say, "I'd like to (you fill in the blank)." You will be directed to the person who can make use of your offer. As I end my term, I wish to thank all those who have supported efforts to make the worship experience at Trinity the best that it can be. Over the years so many have helped with so many things that Pm sure I would omit someone inadvertently. So you all know who you are and I hope you know how much your assistance has meant to me and the congregation. Thank you!

Finance Committee Annual Report 2014 Laraine Longhurst, Finance Committee Chair o Thank you everyone for your financial support through 2014 and pledges for 2015. o Thank you counters for your work each Sunday - accounting for and depositing church funds is a very important job! o Many thanks to Bev Burnett. There are no words to thank her for her many years as treasurer. Its a job that is very demanding she did it with diligence and style! We will miss her as treasurer. o Thank you to Jean Hayes for her continuing work as financial secretary. Its another job that takes a lot of time and commitment. Jean is also active in other aspects of Trinity, such as mission - one of our super volunteers. o Thanks to Kathy Gorman-Coombs for her ability to assert leadership while also providing support to fellow finance committee members. o Thanks to new committee members Glenn Pietrow and Phil Garvey (now Trinity treasurer - another thank you!). o Thanks to those who cleaned the church and helped with other chores, helping to contain expenses. o Kudos to our Vacation Bible School organizers and teachers who more than covered their expenses. As we begin a new year, we have good news regarding the 2014 budget: o we projected a deficit of $486.36 but ended the year with a deficit of only $188.35 o although we took in less than expected in pledges, consistent offerings and other income, and spent more than expected in some areas (insurance and utilities) we spent less in several expenditure lines and avoided a larger deficit: o custodian (who was away during the summer) o organist (fewer hours were needed in 2014 than projected) o evangelism o repairs and maintenance (as we await an expected Presbytery grant) I look forward to 2015 as Trinity members and friends continue to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God.
