President s Report February 28, 2017 Greetings and God's peace from NBLCC Congregational Council President. The NBLCC Congregational Council held its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday February 16, 2017. We are beginning preparations for the annual Congregational meeting in June. Each ministry chair will be working on individual proposed budgets for the coming fiscal year. In addition, two Congregational Council members John Lorenz and Marvin Frye will have completed their three-year terms, so two new Council members will be elected at the annual meeting. Please advise any Council member if you would like to be considered as a Council candidate. Gary Lorenz and the Remodel/ Addition committee continue to make pro- gress analyzing various affordable options to repair and expand the current church facility. The Council has retained an architect in Shelton to help with the cost estimates and advise on building code compliance. Several church members and regular attendees have contractor experience and will be helping with the planning, and perhaps the actual repair and construction process. Obviously, a new funding campaign will be needed as soon as we have a reasonable statement of work and cost estimate. We all wish process could be made to go faster, but all the steps need to be completed in a logical sequence. Also, our time is not God s time. Pray for the progress and for unity, and remember Romans 8:28: we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, and have been called according to his purpose. Council President Update on Council Meeting Time Change Until further notice, all NBLCC Council meetings will begin at 10 am (changed from 2 pm). Meetings will still be held on the third Thursday of the month at NBLCC. This is an open meeting and all are welcome to attend. Discipleship Report Hi Everyone, I hope that you are feeling as blessed as we are now. This past Sunday we had a wonderful time at the Lutefisk and meatball supper after church. Carole Boyko you did a wonderful job getting it all organized! The food was awesome and Duane said the Lutefisk was good too. (I tried it once a few years ago and it was not for me, I do however like lefse!) It was also Mikah's tenth birthday. He was pretty excited to have everyone sing him Happy Birthday. It was also very special to him when his sister pointed out his name in the bulletin. Our Kidz church is moving along thanks to the dedication of our volunteer teachers and our resident music teacher! The kids sang two songs this past Sunday and they are always proud of themselves when they get it right and they are cute. Pete Peterson said he remembers singing "Jesus loves me" seventy years ago in church...he said those kids will remember it too. Rob, thank you so much for playing the accordion, it is a sweet, sweet sound to our ears! Men's Bible study, that meets Saturday mornings at 9:00 am, will be on break during the month of March. Tuesday afternoon is still going strong. Sue Nichols keeps us on track and we always learn a lot. We move slowly, because we are very thorough in our studies, and we usually have great snacks! I was unable to attend the North Bay Women's Bible study this month. It is on the third Friday of the month at 10:00 am. I believe they are starting the planning for our spring tea. It snowed yesterday, but I have faith that spring is right around the corner! May God Bless each of you and your families also... Recipe Corner Winter is still here making us all cold. This recipe is sure to warm you from the inside out. There are many recipes like this, and perhaps you have your favorite. This one is ours. Enjoy! Judy Clark Council Member Evangelism SALISBURY STEAK DELUXE 6 servings 1 can (10-3/4 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted 1 T prepared mustard 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce 1 tsp prepared horseradish 1 egg 1/4 C dry bread crumbs 1/4 C finely chopped onion 1/2 tsp salt Dash pepper 1-1/2 lbs ground beef 1 to 2 T cooking oil 1/2 C water In a bowl, combine the soup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and horseradish, blend well. Set aside. In another bowl, lightly beat the egg. Add bread crumbs, onion, salt, pepper and 1/4 cup of the soup mixture. Add beef and mix well. Shape into six patties. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high. Brown the patties on both sides; drain. Combine remaining soup mixture with water; pour over patties. Cover and cook over low heat 10-15 minutes or until meat is no longer pink. Remove patties to a serving platter (if desired); top with sauce.
