6:30 & 8:30 Orders of Worship August 3 & 4, 2013 (See a separate bulletin for 10:45) Today's texts offer instruction and encouragement for all who are occasionally overwhelmed by the "unhappy business" of life. Jesus urges us to take care and be on guard against all kinds of greed. We who have died with Christ in holy baptism have also been raised with him and are encouraged to elevate our thinking, seeking the "things that are above." To that end we seek the sustenance of the Lord's supper and the encouragement of God's word. WELCOME TO TRINITY! We are glad you are here at one of our FOUR WORSHIP SERVICES this weekend, each centered around the same scriptures but with four different musical styles. THIS BULLETIN contains information for the 6:30 p.m. Saturday night folk service and the 8:30 a.m. traditional service. A SEPARATE BULLETIN lists the two 10:45 a.m. Sunday services, one a festive setting here in the sanctuary and the other a praise worship in Jack s Place, our new fellowship hall. We invite you to turn to page 2 and insert in this bulletin for HELPFUL INFORMATION for visitors and members alike, such as restrooms, child care and service participants. WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENT sheets are available at the doors or from a host or usher and are available online at www.trinityashland.org. SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES for all ages are Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. See the hallway information board or a Sunday School host for class listings and locations. SATURDAY NIGHT 6:30 FOLK SERVICE August 3, 2013 - Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost We gather to sing at 6:20 p.m. though the musicians practice beginning at 6 p.m. You are welcome to come as early as you like to prepare for worship. The service is on the screen, or you may use the blue books distributed by the host families. This evening we use Setting Six from the ELW for a service of the Word. It begins on page 165 of our red book. + + + WORD + + + God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching and song. READING Colossians 3:1-11 Pew Bible, NT pg. 215 So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, 3 for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient. 7 These are the ways you also once followed, when you were living that life. 8 But now you must get rid of all such things anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices 10 and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator. 11 In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all! The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. *GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia, Alleluia pg. 151 *GOSPEL Luke 12:13-21 P e w Bible, N T p g. 7 2 The holy gospel according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord. 13 Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me." 14 But he said to him, "Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?" 15 And he said to them, "Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions." 16 Then he told them a parable: "The land of a rich man produced abundantly. 17 And he thought to himself, 'What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?' 18 Then he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' 20 But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' 21 So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God." The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Please be seated 6

*INVITATION TO COMMUNION Christ invites you to a place of honor at this banquet. Welcome to the feast. Please be seated As we celebrate Holy Communion, we encourage ALL BAPTIZED CHRISTIANS, who believe with us that with the bread and wine we receive the body and blood of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins and salvation, to commune with those around you. Please sign a COMMUNION CARD, located in the pew rack, if you have not done so yet this year, and hand it to the usher who directs you. Most people on the main floor receive the elements while kneeling at the altar rail. Those in the balcony and the last four pews of the nave are directed to an intinction station in the narthex. Persons in the front who have difficulty with steps or kneeling are welcome to come to the narthex when their pew is invited forward. You return by the center aisle. If you are NOT PHYSICALLY ABLE to move to the narthex, please advise an usher and the elements will be brought to you. CHILDREN who do not yet commune are invited with their families to receive a blessing. GLUTEN-FREE WAFERS are available at each station. GRAPE JUICE is available at the altar. Please indicate your desire to the communion deacon. MUSIC DURING COMMUNION AGNUS DEI Lamb of God page 154 TRIO Lord Be Glorified with Take My Life and Let It Be - arr.
