Congregation Ohev Shalom Youth & Family Update Week of September 8th Amy Geboff Director of Youth & Family Education Gabe Grossman Assistant Youth & Family Director In this Issue Calendar in a Nutshell Hebrew School Young Families Families Youth TODAH RABBAH to Shannon Melnick, Caryn & Dan Coultoff, the Waldbaum Family, Spector Family, The Weiss Family, Caryn & Randy Cohen, the Siegel Family and the Rothbaum Family for their donations to the 7th Grade Shabbaton I hope you had a great holiday weekend. We had the opportunity to visit our daughter and son in law in Tulsa, Oklahoma this past weekend. They just moved there as Sara is the Director of Jewish Life and Learning which includes Hebrew school! I guess it is in her genes. There were so many wonderful things about the weekend but one thing that stuck out which is applicable to this update is that as we sat at services on Shabbat morning, it reinforced for me that all Jews are tied together and prayer is a common bond. As we took out the Torah, recited the Amidah, Ain Keloheinu, Mourners Kaddish, Aleinu, Adon Olam (to the tune of It's a Small World in our honor), I thought that Jews all over the country and world were doing the same thing. This is why we focus our Hebrew program in prayer as it is a common language when we are together as a community. The school/program year is in full swing. This weekend we are hosting the USY Chapter Presidents from the Mercaz

to the Shisgal Family and the Rothbaum Familyfor their donation to the 6th Grade Shabbaton RELIGIOUS SCHOOL TEACHING STAFF Subregion. They are leading services on Friday night so come join us! Sunday we have our Family Book and Cook at 12:30.. Families of all ages are invited to make Chocolate Honey Cake Trifle and do an activity around the book "Gershon's Monster." See the information below for details. The High Holidays will be here before we know it. An email went out this week with forms to register and an email for adult volunteers. Please be sure to register your children so we can plan accordingly to ensure they are safe and have a meaningful experience. They still need feedback from school families. If you haven't filled out the survey please take a few moments and do so by September 16. We are the future and your input is invaluable. The link is Strategic Planning Congregational Survey. Excitement is building for the Ahavat Yisrael Family Trip to Israel. We are having a Meet and Greet on September 25 at 12:30. Anyone who is interested in exploring the trip or have already decided tojoin us is welcome. No obligation. Finally, as we come upon the 15 th anniversary of 9/11, it is important to remember the innocent lives lost as well as the many heroes who risked their lives and the love and support that our country showed each other at this sad time in our history. Ahavah, Love always wins. Wishing everyone an Early Shabbat Shalom and hope you have the opportunity to feel the Ohev love. Amy Calendar in a Nutshell
