CARSON VALLEY FOOTPRINTER The President s Message PAT SMITH Our meeting at Gold Dust West turned out great. Although our scheduled guest speaker had to cancel due to illness, we had a great program by Ron Pierini. It was really interesting to hear about the bombing of Harvey s in Lake Tahoe. We got to see slides and hear inside details regarding what happened. It was fun to see a very young Ron Pierini!! One of the things we really enjoy is giving our local fire department and sheriff s offices an opportunity to honor one of their own who they feel has gone above and beyond in their duties or volunteering. At our May meeting, Deputy Fire Chief, David Fogerson, honored Elaine Pace. She sounds like quite a woman, and although she couldn t attend, I hope we get to meet her in the future. May was also the end of our current Membership Drive. Thanks to all who brought in new members. I was very happy to award the prize of 2 nights at Harrah s, food and entertainment to Greg Brown. Greg brought in six new members in the last few months and three more in May for a total of nine new members!! He said he isn t done yet!! Well done! Archie Marcum, our District Governor, was at our meeting and urged our members to try to go to the Footprinter Conventions. They are open to any member and it would be great to have members there to represent our club. The next one is in Salt Lake City. Archie said they are really a lot of fun. Our June meeting is at Jethro s in the Gardnerville Ranchos. This will be our first time there, so I hope everyone comes and checks it out. They have been very accommodating, and I am looking forward to seeing how it fits our needs. Have a wonderful Memorial Day and remember our veterans. Pat!1

From the 1st Vice President BILL PETERS Hello All, Can you believe it s June already? This year is quickly flying by. What a great presentation Sheriff Pierini gave at our last meeting. This was the first I heard about the Harvey s Casino bombing. Okay, okay, I m from the midwest and was getting out of the Army when this occurred, so that s my excuse. Anyway, when Sheriff Pierini first told me he d be the speaker for the meeting and the topic would be about the casino bombing, my first thought was, what casino bombing? My second thought was what fool would be stupid enough to do that? He answered both questions during his presentation Lets hope that nightmare scenario never happens again. Our next meeting will be held on June 21st, at Jethro s Oven & Grill, 1281 Kimmerling Rd, Gardnerville, NV 89410. Doors open at 5:30pm and the price is $24.00. Don McRoberts was kind enough to put a link into the footprinters web page under the Meetings tab for a map and directions on how to get there. https://www.cvfootprint.org/meetings.html Hope to see you there! Bill!2

From the 2nd Vice President I gotta be honest I really LOVED the speaker we had for our recent IFA meeting! I originally asked Ron to speak about the Harvey s bombing in June so when our scheduled speaker was unable to attend, I knew that Ron had to hustle to get his presentation together. And I think he did a wonderful job! CELESTE (Again, I m biased) If you are interested in learning more, there PIERINI are numerous stories on the web and even a true-life TV documentary (the actor they got to play Ron is uncannily similar)! Thank you again Sheriff, for your excellent and informative presentation. Next months speaker will be from the Nevada Department of Wildlife who will talk to us about our local creatures! Expect to learn about coyotes, and mountain lions, among other critters that are ever prevalent in our neck-of-the-woods. Unfortunately, Detective Ed Garren will not be able to join us as previously planned due to a special sporting event he is attending with his child. I've been working with NDOW for some time and am so pleased that they can come join us! Thank you for your attendance and also for your suggestions for speakers. While I am already in the process of gathering speakers for next year, I am always looking for more. See you soon, Celeste YES OR NO BY 6/14 FOR THE 6/21 MEETING RAY HOYT 267-4355 E-MAIL RHOYT@CHARTER.NET OR RSVP VIA WEBSITE AT: WWW.CVFOOTPRINT.ORG!3

From the Secretary - Treasurer Our membership currently stands at 125 regular members counting the most recent additions approved at the May meeting. The latest are Marshall Goldy, and Lynn and Jan Muzzy. All three were sponsored by member Greg Brown. RAY HOYT The membership contest for this fiscal year was won by Greg Brown who recruited 9 of the 19 new members who signed up since July 2017. Please make our new members feel welcome when you see them, and congratulations to our recruiters. Remember that our newly-elected Board will take office on July 1 and will be officially sworn in at our annual Member s Appreciation Picnic on July 15, 2018. The picnic will again be held at the Aspen Mobile Home Park picnic grounds in Gardnerville. The BBQ lunch will again be cooked and served by the Carson Valley Lion s Club. Lunch will be served around noon, but come a little early and socialize. If you wish to bring a dessert, you may do so. After lunch, we will play some bingo. The cost is a very nominal $5 per person. Sometime during mid-june, dues notices will go in the mail. Dues for the next association year beginning in July remain at $24 and will be due on July 1, 2018. Your prompt attention to this dues notice will be appreciated. International Footprint Association Our Purpose The California Division of the International Association for Identification Convention met in Fresno, California on May 11th, 1929. It was here that a series of events combined to lead eleven attendees of this convention to form an association and become members of a group that would soon become the International Footprint Association, Inc. Word of the association quickly spread at other conventions where the Footprinters set up headquarters and held open houses for the entertainment and good fellowship of their members. Membership grew rapidly and the Footprinters held their own first Grand Convention at the Whitcomb Hotel in San Francisco in 1931. About 300 members attended. Originally membership was limited to law enforcement officials. Later this limited scope was expanded to peace officers (active and retired) from all agencies, doctors, lawyers, elected and appointed officials, men and women of all professions and businesses, and all citizens sympathetic to good law enforcement and its attendant problems. The early rapid growth of the Association was accelerated even more by the first Grand Convention. We continued to grow so fast that we became incorporated on January 26, 1932. Because of the wide spread popularity of the Footprinters our Board of Directors (on June 6, 1935) voted to form the organization into local chapters each being subordinate to the governing body of the Grand Chapter. Today the Footprinters have 21 chapters divided into 4 Districts. Each chapter still promotes the original precepts of the Footprinters and, in addition, have added many other objectives to their agenda. While some chapter objectives are unique to the individual chapter, many of them have common threads. Some of these are: * To promote support for law enforcement within their community. * Recognize the achievements of individuals within law enforcement. * Sponsor worthy movements within their communities. * Support charitable causes, especially children s charities. * Promote the true spirit of Americanism. Join us. Promote and support law enforcement. Live our slogan of "Bigger and Better Footprints".!6
