Business meeting August 3, 2015 held at St. Thomas More The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by Acting GK Tyson Gentz (WGK Ken delayed due to Parent teacher conferences) Warden: Membership cards confirmed by Warden Joe Feeley Opening Prayers and Pledge of Allegiance: Led by Chaplain Father Nathan White Officers Roll Call results: Deputy Grand Knight Ed Gerard was excused. All other officers were present. Opening Ode: Sung Introduction of Dignitaries: Father Nathan, District Deputy Joe Danko and all other Past Grand Knights as well as Former District Deputy and Past District Master Gerry Fjetland. (WGK Ken arrived, he was held up by a train) Congratulations to Dick Milanese and David Zowin who both completed their 2nd and 3rd degree on July 26. Additionally Robert Laguna received his 2nd and 3rd degree in Chandler Previous Minutes: Were read and approved as read Report of Admission Committee and Reading of Applications: We received a request from Supreme that there is a gentleman named Jonathan Cheung from St James who had asked how he could go about joining the Knights. The Admissions committee will approach him to schedule an interview. WGK Ken Pritchett report is as follows: Previous Knight of the month Tyson Gentz was recognized. The Kosikowski family as well as the Costigan Family for two previous family of the month awards were also recognized. July s Knight of the Month is Alfred Albion and the Family of the Month is the Eric Biallas family. Our worthy DGK Ed Gerard got a promotion at work and was immediately sent to Texas for training Ken went on to recognize brother Knights for all that they do 1
Ken commented that he met with Father Jim and that Father was very supportive and appreciative of the Knights. Ken received a phone call that Dr. Richard Carlisle had passed away on May 17 Ken reported that the requirements for receiving free council shirts are as follows: o New Knights will receive one after they achieve their 3 rd degree, attend at least two business meetings and participate in at least three events that are not social events. Mentors of new knights should pay attention to this o Knights who recruit at least two new members during the year will receive one o After being awarded Knight of the month or family of the month the Knight will receive one The Officer installation ceremony is scheduled for August 16th after the 11:00 AM mass at St. James The cost for the AZ Rosary Celebration sponsored by Knights is significant. The fees for advertisements are where the bulk of the money comes from so WGK asked us to please keep this in mind when we discuss the full page add There is a District organizational meeting on August 8 th Chaplain s report: Father Nathan commented about people who complain and are not willing to do anything about it. He went on to mention many instances when God and the Church took side on important issues or situations. He then called our attention to the importance of our taking sides on important issues such as Right to Life for one example Treasurer's Report: Worthy treasurer Dave Willer reported the beginning balance, deposits, withdrawals and the final balance. Reading of Bills and Communications: Worthy FINSEC Rich Drey read the bills and also mentioned reimbursement and income checks A motion was made seconded and passed to pay the bills Report of Auditor s and Trustees: No report Chancellor's Report: Bob Myers reported the following: One of the seminarians has a birthday coming up and he sent a birthday card around for us to sign. Priest and seminarians are having a basketball game tomorrow night at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Scottsdale that all are invited to attend. It had been proposed by one of our seminarians. The rest of the story about the convent mentioned during our last meeting is that the sale has been ruled invalid. The Real estate mogul has submitted paperwork and this will be an ongoing issue for many years 2

Joe shared that he is planning a recruitment drive in the fall. Ken reminded us that there is a recruitment incentive from now until September 30 th. E3 Africa pasta dinner is planned for October 3rd St. Thomas More Report: Dave reported the following: The meeting with the GK and Father Jim went really well He thanked those who helped out for the pancake breakfast. He mentioned that we have to begin planning the breakfast in April. He invited all to come to the breakfast on the 23rd Adopt-a-street: There was a good turnout last Saturday. This occurs on the second Saturday of the month every other month, the next one is this September 12th. The Veterans' Home: There is always a need for volunteers the 1st Sunday of the month pushing them in their wheelchairs from the Vet's home to the Hospital chapel. The next one will be on September 6th 3
It's Our Watch; Ken reported that the first Sunday of every month is our turn to pray the Rosary in front of the Planned Parenthood clinic 8:00 to 9:00 AM. Sunday August 2 nd was our fifth year doing this worthy effort. The next one will be on September 6th A comment was made that the proposal to stop government funding of Planned Parenthood was voted down. It was suggested that we reach out to our congressmen to remove this funding. Another suggestion was made to write to corporate sponsors to let them know that their support was inappropriate. Fund Raising: Butch Kohs gave us a stadium update. He mentioned that the first game has only one helper signed up so far. He asked for help and also recommended that those who have not been trained consider doing so. PWID Drive: John Ingram Sr. is planning to oversee this effort once again. Store fronts will be on 25, 26, & 27 September. The drive is scheduled at St. James for weekend of 10-11 Oct. District Deputy Joe Danko reminded us that he will no longer be storing the tootsie rolls and suggested that we make sure that they are ordered on time Council Director: WGK Ken reported that we had a successful Bunko night and that the next planned social activity will be an Oktoberfest pot luck bunko night would be in October Tyson shared that the annual family bowling event is scheduled to be on Sunday August 9 th from 1:30 to 3:30. Family/Youth Director: Tyson Gentz Asked that we order the surge package for the soccer challenge Reported that St Joe s youth camp is available Labor day weekend A motion was made, seconded and passed to pay for the bowling event The blood drive was reported to be very successful. A motion was made, seconded and passed to pay for the $400 full page ad in the Rosary Celebration New Business: WGK Ken Pritchett reported the following: There are a number of RTL initiatives in the state o "Knight Shift" October 16, 2015, 7:00 PM to October 17, 2015 7:00 AM In front of the Planned Parenthood, 1250 East Apache Blvd, Tempe, Arizona o "Knight Shift" 40 Days for Life October 16, 2015 o A letter was read concerning RTL. It informed us about the statewide initiative to donate an ultrasound machine for the Fatima Women s Center. It will be discussed at the next officers meeting The first Monday of September is Labor Day so we will meet on Tuesday September 1 st at St Thomas More at the normal time Report of the Fourth Degree: Gerry Fjetland had nothing to report Field Agent s Report; WGK Ken shared that the contact information for our field agent, Matthew Jones has been added to the web site by Hal. 4
District Deputy s Report Joe Danko discussed the Rosary Celebration and asked for help. They will need about 80 ushers. Dress code will be to wear a suit. He went on to recommend attendance in the coming District Organizational meeting He shared that the soccer events will be as follows: Council level will be in September; District level will be in October and the State level will be on November 14 th at Bourgade HS, food will be provided by St Joseph s youth camp. He offered blueprints to make a net if councils don t have a park to go to. He commented that PWID drive tootsie roll cases should be ordered by mid September Joe offered the new state pin and read a letter from our worthy State Deputy. The theme is Find Us Ready Lord and deals with the destiny of man. We are asked to pray the prayer to St Michael the Archangel after every meeting Other new business: A motion was made to form a team to change the By-Laws to change the meeting time. This will be discussed at the Officer s meeting. For the Good of the Order: A resolution of condolence was mentioned for Dr Carlisle (the discussion was too quiet for me to hear). The prayer request was updated and read.
