PAGE TWO YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ On this 4 th of July holiday weekend, as our nation celebrates its independence, I m sure that we have visitors with us who may be in town to celebrate with family and friends. So, to those who are visiting us this weekend, I welcome you to St. Beatrice and am very happy that you could join us for the celebration of the Eucharist. I pray that all of us, parishioners and visitors alike, have a safe and happy 4 th of July. And as we enjoy the freedom to celebrate our nation s birth, let us also remember in prayer all veterans, the brave men and women who have fought to keep our great country a land of freedom and opportunity for all. I d like to also offer an overdue thank-you this week regarding our Knights of Columbus. Recently Eric Tragarz, the Grand Knight (GK) of Ave Maria Council, concluded his terms as GK. He is succeeded by Michael Paul. I am very grateful to the Knights for all that they do for our parish, and I thank Michael for being willing to take on the responsibility of being GK. I also want to very much thank Eric for his wonderful service as GK for the past two years. In addition to their usual areas of service, during Eric s time the Knights hosted such events at St. Beatrice as the Holy Family prayer service, and the presentation by Patrick McCaskey (of the Chicago Bears front of ice). Thank you, Eric, for all of your hard work! And to all men of our parish: you are invited to join the Knights for food, drink, and fun at their annual Man-B-Que on July 19 th (see the ad in this week s bulletin). Finally, I sometimes like to offer Catholic trivia in my bulletin articles, and I normally use questions that I ind online. Because of our visitors this holiday weekend, this time I decided to create my own questions, all having to do with the Chicago Archdiocese. See how many you can answer without using Google! The answers will be printed in next week s bulletin (and if you re not here to get it, our bulletins can always be found at www.stbeatriceparish.org). Good luck! 1. How many Catholics are in the Chicago Archdiocese? 2 million 1.8 million 2.2 million 3 million 2. How many parishes are in the Archdiocese? 275 344 360 325 3. How many diocesan priests serve in the Archdiocese? 770 910 675 830 4. The Archdiocese consists of which Illinois counties? Cook & Lake Cook & DuPage Lake & DuPage Cook & McHenry 5. What year was the Archdiocese established? 1892 1901 1868 1843 6. Chicago has had ive bishops, two archbishops, and seven cardinal archbishops. From the names below, who was the irst Bishop, who was the irst Archbishop, and who was the irst Cardinal Archbishop? Patrick Feehan George Mundelein William Quarter St. Beatrice, pray for us. May God bless you. Fr. Rob
