Perhaps you grew up with your only associations being fasting, nuns with rulers, and "Catholic guilt." Our faith can sometimes have the connotation of restriction and absence, not abundance. Who is God in your life? Is He the divine law-giver, the judge punishing the rulebreakers? These are certainly attributes of God. But the laws don't exist for themselves alone. They exist to help us love one another as God loves us. And this loving God is the author of abundance and joy. Did you hear today's Gospel? "There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee." Here at this wedding, Jesus would perform "the beginning of his signs...and so reveal his glory." This first sign isn't a miraculous healing. He didn't raise someone from the dead. He kept a party going! "There were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons...the water...had become wine." The wine has run out. Jesus creates somewhere between 120 and 180 gallons to help his friend save face. We may not have such momentous miracles in our lives, but God is watching out for us. The string of green lights when you're running late. The sale on the replacement appliance you need. The friend who calls at just the right time. These are the little moments of God's abundance. We just need to look for them! Not only does Jesus surprise, but the guests point out to their host: "You have kept the good wine until now." The divine wine is better than the earthly variety. God's goodness is better than what we can grasp at for ourselves. Isn't that how it always goes? Please pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Jane Babcock ( Mother of Joan Tosto ) who recently passed away and is enjoying everlasting life.

My name is Jo Scheller. My children and I are long-time parishioners of Holy Sepulcher parish. We attend 10:30 Mass where sometimes I lead the Children s Liturgy of the Word session; I am also a CGS catechist during the week for the school children. I am Saint Kilian s Safe Environment Coordinator and have now joined the Holy Sepulcher staff as well. My job is to ensure that our parishes are compliant with all state and diocesan safe environment requirements. This states that all ministries, whether or not they involve children, require clearances. These may vary per ministry but most can be completed in about 2 hours. Clearances help protect our children, our families and our parish through criminal, child abuse and FBI history checks. The included online training provides education on the warning signs of potential abuse and abusers. Your willingness to complete these steps helps create a safer parish for all, therefore, it is very important that all volunteers be fully compliant before serving. To begin your clearances, or check on the status of what has already been completed, please email me at hsc.jscheller@zoominternet.net -- I have detailed instructions that greatly simplify the process. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me! I am here to serve Holy Sepulcher and especially, each volunteer in their ministry. I am so happy, so blessed to be able to serve Holy Sepulcher parish. Thank you. FISH FRY CLEARANCES The Lenten Fish Fry dinners are one of our biggest fundraising events. It is a time of great hospitality and community building, but it takes many people to pull this off! We need you! Please be aware that clearances will be required for all who volunteer to work it is not too early to start getting these taken care of. New applicants can usually complete the process in 2 hours. To begin, email Jo Scheller at hsc.jscheller@zoominternet.net THANK YOU for serving our parish in this busy season. Empty Nesters The Empty Nesters are a group of parishioners whose children have moved out of the nest. We meet on the 3 rd Friday of each month (September through May) from 6:30 to 8:30 PM for fellowship, prayer and discussion. This year we are using the video program Divine Mercy. NEW MEMBERS ARE WELCOME from St Kilian and Holy Sepulcher parishes! Our first meeting of the new year will be on January 18. Contact Michelle for more information: wstanch361@aol.com We proudly welcome Broderick King (parents David & Alicia King) Who was recently baptized into the faith. TO HOLY SEPULCHER PARISH! PAGE 4 WHAT IS THE BRIDGE PAGE? The Bridge Page is intended to be a weekly insert in the bulletins of both Saint Kilian and Holy Sepulcher Parishes. The symbol on the mast head is the bridge. Bridges are how communities connect, communicate and collaborate. Our parishes are two distinct civil and canonical entities (symbolized by the bell towers of both churches as the bridge supports). But we are united in the same Diocesan grouping and our common commitment to Christ. The contents of The Bridge Page will be items of interest to parishioners of both parishes. MASS FOR THE PEOPLE: Church law directs that pastors celebrate one Mass each Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation for the intention of the people of the parish. New directives of the Diocese indicate that one such Mass be celebrated each week in each grouping (not parish). This is because the obligation is the pastor s (administrator) and there is one pastor for both parishes. Therefore, you will begin to notice in the beginning of February that there will be one Mass celebrated each weekend for the following intention: The living and deceased members of Holy Sepulcher and Saint Kilian Parishes. These Masses will be celebrated in Saint Kilian Parish for the month of February and then alternate each month thereafter with Holy Sepulcher Parish. This will enable a few more Sunday Masses to be celebrate for individual intentions. Weekend Mass Celebrants 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Saturday, January 26th 4:00 p.m. HS Fr. EDUCATION NEWS Sr. Benita DeMatteis, Faith Formation Director hsfaithformation@zoominternet.net Mrs. Rachael Horstman, Administrative Assistant hs2faithformation@zoominternet.net 724-586-7276 January 20, 2019: Faith Formation Classes 9:05-10:10 Pre-K-8 January 20, 2019: Children s Liturgy of the Word 10:30 Mass JANUARY 27: NO CCD CLASSES DUE TO SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE Second Sunday in Ordinary Times: In today s Gospel, Mary points out to Jesus that the bride and groom at Cana have run out of wine to serve their guests. Jesus acts. He makes a big difference to one Galilean couple and gives us all a sign of what He has come to be food and drink for God s people. January 21, 2019: The children s message for Martin Luther King Jr day is that we serve a God who looks at our hearts, not our skin. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day to reflect, remember, and rejoice that God made and loves us all. January 22: Day of prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children - On this day of penance, the Church calls us to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Find a local right-to-life event in observance of the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Pray: Loving God, every life is important. Thank you for this precious gift. Amen. January 25, 2019: The Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? Jesus asks Saul (Paul) in Acts 9:4. Known for his persecution of Jesus first followers, he came to believe after Jesus revealed himself on the road to Damascus. Paul became a fervent Christian missionary. Ask: How do you share the Good News? We can teach children that sharing their faith is often as simple as a casual conversation or inviting others into how we live our lives. How we live speaks volumes about who we love and value. And kids are more than capable of sharing all these things. Now Accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year Every child deserves an effective, challenging, and motivating education. Today's students are tomorrow's leaders, and children should have the opportunity to achieve their own American dreams. We are now accepting applications for all grades (Preschool-8th grade) for the 2019-2020 school year. Please contact us at 724-586-5022 or school@holysepulcher.org to schedule a tour. January 22-27, 2019: The world s Catholic youth will travel to Panama City, Panama, for this international event of faith and youth. The first World Youth Day was hosted by St. John Paul II in 1985. Pray: Lord, protect all those traveling to World Youth day. NO FAITH FORMATION CLASSES NEXT SUNDAY JANUARY 27 DUE TO SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE.
