From the Post Chaplain Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote on it at the instruction of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And besides, there were added to them many similar words. Jeremiah 36:32 Judgment came against Jehoiakim not simply because he acted foolishly in burning the Scriptures but because of the condition of heart which that action revealed. This is given to us in one flaming sentence in verse 24: Yet neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words, was afraid, nor did they rend their garments. These men had lost the fear of God. And when a nation or a people or an individual loses the fear of God, they are on their way to destruction. For the fear of God is based upon the sovereign power which he exercises in life. God rules in the affairs of men. Napoleon, at the height of his career, once very boldly said, God is on the side that has the heaviest artillery his cynical answer to someone who asked if God was on the side of France. Then came the Battle of Waterloo, where he lost both the battle and his empire. Years later, in exile on the island of St. Helena, chastened and humbled, Napoleon said, Man proposes; God disposes. Our Father, these words sober me. I pray that I will not point the finger of self-righteousness at others, but rather will acknowledge the times I have not shown You the fear worthy of Your name. Amen. Semper Fi, Gunner This month's dinner winners are Flo Larson and Skip & Petra. 2 The Patriot October 2017

American Legion Breakfast Sunday, October 15th 17 th Anniversary of Attack on USS Cole (DDG-67) Location: VFW Building 12342 Old Pomerado Road Poway, CA 92064 Time: 9:00 11:00 AM Donations: $9.00 Menu: Tri-tip Eggs Toast Hash Browns OJ & Coffee Youth Activities All around the globe, in every time zone, students gathered on 27 September at their flagpoles, praying for their school, friends, families, churches, and communities. For over 25 years, See You at the Pole (SYATP) has been about one simple act - prayer - students uniting themselves in prayer before God interceding for their generation. On 12 October 2000, Cole was the target of a terrorist attack carried out by Al-Qaeda in the Yemeni port of Aden, when two suicide bombers detonated their small boat near the warship, killing 17 sailors, including San Diego High School graduate, Lakiba Nicole Palmer, injuring 39 others, and damaging the ship. Lakiba was one of two women to become the first ever killed in an attack on a U.S. warship since women began serving aboard combat vessels. On Thursday, October 12, 2017, 10:00 am, at Mount Hope Cemetery on Market Street, the 1st District will conduct the Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony to honor her sacrifice. The VFW and American Legion joined Trail Life Troop CA-37:23 around the flag pole in prayer at Poway s Veteran Park. Seaman Lakiba Nicole Palmer All Gave Some. Some Gave All.
