She is not seeking financial compensation at this time. Please see her impressive bio below. A native of Cambridge, Maryland, Ashley Watkins has been playing flute for many years. Her musical journey started when she joined the band in the fourth grade. From that moment she knew she loved playing, and band became her favorite subject in school. At age 14, she started taking private lessons at her local music store. Then her studies extended across the bay and she studied with Kimberly Valerio, and Jill Canawith of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. During that time she began playing with several youth orchestras, most notably the Washington, DC Youth Orchestra, where she toured South Africa in 2002. She performed in many different venues during that trip. She also performed with the Peabody Sinfonietta at the Peabody Conservatory of Music under the direction of Gene Young. Ashley continued her musical studies at James Madison University in Virginia under Dr. Beth Chandler earning a Bachelor of Music in 2007; and The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio where she received a Master of Music in 2010 under George Pope. She continues to perform throughout her community as a soloist, spreading and sharing her love and passion for music.
