A Message from... Bridget Janis-Prayer Vigil Coordinator As we go through this Lenten Season, we search for ways to draw closer to Jesus. We may fast, join a new study group, or just try to spend more time with God in prayer. And praying for others is one of the best ways I know for creating that closeness to God and other Christians. With that in mind, I am asking you to consider signing up for the Women s Walk #154 prayer vigil. Many of you prayed for the men s walk and have already saved your time slot for this walk. And the Emmaus Community thank you! But as of this writing we still have 32 slots to fill. If you would like to join in our prayer vigil and pray for those special people who are about to have an amazing experience, please use the link below. It will take you right to the sign-up page. Jodi Gross of Kairos Outside of Eastern Missouri Kairos Outside is a ministry of support and encouragement for women who are doing time along with their incarcerated relatives or friends. If you are interested in learning more about Kairos Outside, contact me anytime at jodygross3@yahoo.com for more information. Here s what s going on in KO East Mo! Summertime! Time for vacations, swimming in the pool, trips to Six Flags, watching TV in the air conditioning and spending lots of time with family and friends. Is serving others in your summertime schedule? Let s face it, it tends to get inconvenient to serve others in the summertime. There are no Walks, Weekends or Retreats, so what plans do we have to serve? It s during these inconvenient times when we need to intentionally ask the Holy Spirit to give us that needed nudge! Jesus served and ministered when it was inconvenient. Think about it, Jesus served when He was tired, when He was hungry, when He was thirsty and even when He knew that His own death was in a few days! He taught us that leaders serve Mark 9:35 - Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all. He taught us that if we want to be Christ like, we serve Luke 22:27 - For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves Let s challenge ourselves during the summer of 2017. As Christ followers, we are called to serve. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to make it clear where He wants us to serve & bring glory to God! Heavenly Father, thank you for the people that are there to love and support me. Make me aware of opportunities to bless and encourage others. Help me to reflect your love in everything I say and do. In Jesus name, Amen. A Message from... Nathan McKie-Face to Face Steering Committee FACE TO FACE GATHERING STEAM! By now you may have either read something about Face to Face in the Newsletter or heard about it at Closings this past fall. The Missouri East Board has created a steering committee and approved the initiation of an Encounter, as the events are known. The Upper Room will begin the training process and provide materials to us soon. We would like to schedule our first encounter for the end of this year, after the fall walks. Just as a reminder, this is a program similar to the weekend Walks that is designed for 60+ year-olds. It has talks and some of the same Walk events. It is not held in a retreat format, on consecutive days, or segregated by gender. The venues will normally be churches or assisted living facilities. The cost is minimal, in large part, due to these Encounters being conducted in these venues and there only being one meal per day. Anyone who has been on a Walk can serve on a Team. This format and lack of restrictions to serve in certain positions (for the most part) should be of interest to Community members who might not be able to serve on a Walk weekend. This includes past Lay Directors. Here s what we need you to do: 1) If you know of a facility or venue that would be ideal for an Encounter 2) If you have an interest in helping to organize our first Encounter 3) If you have an interest in serving on our first Encounter team Email Nathan McKie at navigator.1@live.com For addition information, you can visit facetoface.upperroom.org There is an informative video on their site as well Missouri East Walk to Emmaus/Chrysalis/Kairos Newsletter, March 2017 8
