We must learn to treasure in our hearts the living memory of that call, when Jesus passed my way, gazed at me with mercy and asked me to follow him. Try to revive the memory of that moment when his eyes met yours., the moment when he made you realize that he loved you. But do I remember it? Have I forgotten it? Have I gone off paths that made me forget it? Lord, help me, for you know that I want to encounter you and let myself be embraced by your mercy. Mary sustains our journey toward Christmas, for she teaches us how to live this Advent season in expectation of the Lord. For Advent is indeed a time of waiting for the Lord, who will visit us all on the feast of Christmas, but also, each one, in our own hearts. The merciful Lord is coming! Let us wait for him! Thank you to the Thibault-Neun Funeral Home of Franklin and the Paquette-Neun Funeral Home of Northfield for their continued generosity. The Parish Calendars are now available at the entrances of both churches.

GABRIEL S PRAYER LINE If you d like to call in your prayer requests, this month s contact is Carol Seeley at 520-5235 You can also write in your request in the book at either church. PRAYERS REQUESTED: William Joscelyn Pope Francis Prayer Intentions for December: That all may experience the mercy of God, who never tires of forgiving. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Giving advice. In today s gospel, John the Baptist is telling everyone what they need to do to prepare for the Savior s arrival. We know a lot of people who stress out at this time of year and could use some advice on how to get through the holidays with their sanity and budget intact. And we d love to help them. But how do you tell someone not to bother sending out Christmas cards when they ll be getting one from you? Or to keep their decorations simple when your house glows for miles? How do you convince them not to get you a Christmas gift when you show up with a little something I got you? In other words, you re telling people: Do what I say, not what I do! And everyone know how valid that kind of advice can be. When we start placing more emphasis on prayer, outreach to the poor, visits to the lonely and forgotten, Servers Lectors scripture reading and other spiritual endeavors, we ll become more credible. When we downsize our greeting card list, our decorating plan and our gift list, we can credibly advise others to do the same. Sad to say, Christmas has been hijacked by big business and Hollywood and it is quickly losing its core Christian message. Last week, a Christmas tree became a holiday tree! The only way to reclaim it is if each one of us stops buying into the commercialism and shallow festivity that have unfortunately come to define our observance of the Lord s coming to earth to save us. His birth can inspire us to celebrate but it won t mean much if we lose sight of what we are celebrating.
