Grand Knight Report Cliff Jarecke On Sunday council 1728 had their annual picnic. Everyone who attended had a good time. There was plenty of great food. 4 members Bar B Q ed pork and it was all If you missed it this year, mark it on your calendar next year and you won t be disappointed. There is a lot coming up the next month. We have the Oktoberfest at St. James, Major degree and Tootsie Roll Drive. If you have now signed up to help with Tootsie Drive go to: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080b4fada92aa31-2016 Prayer has been prayed and it is time to eat Fathers Art and Jack took advantage of it. District Deputy Report Mitch O Neill D.D. #24 The official order wide church drive for members is in October, which is also the month for the campaign for intellectual disabilities (aka tootsie roll). What a great time to contact potential members while doing a charitable cause, so be sure to have a form 100 with you while you collect for the intellectually disabled. Brothers - JUST ASK - our church directories has many good Catholic men who are not KofC members. If we are to grow one member per council per month we need to ask these men to join our ranks. We have 2 major (1st,2nd, and 3rd) degrees in our area soon. October 16 in Broken Bow, and October 23 in Kearney. However, do NOT make a candidate wait to get his First Degree! Every council has the DVD from Supreme, so there is no reason to have a potential knight waiting to join. If you need help, contact me and I will assist you. We also need 3rd degree members to show up and support the brothers who take their major degree in Kearney. Please contact a fellow Catholic man and invite him to join the Knights. Vivat Jesus, Mitch O'Neill, District Deputy 24 Phone: (308) 440-3330 Email: oneillm@unk.edu

Knight Knight Of of the The Month Month Father Kenny Tom Richter Mullowney Fr. Tom said it's all God's fault that he become a priest. When Father Tom Mullowney left for an Ohio seminary right out of eighth grade, he remembers having a little talk with the one above. "I can't believe it. I was just doing what I was supposed to do," he said. Father Mullowney, who has been retired in Kearney for several years but still keeps active celebrating Mass five days a week at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney, and filling in at St. James, Prince of Peace and the Newman Center in Kearney. Father Mullowney has served at churches in Grand Island (St. Mary's Cathedral and Blessed Sacrament), Spalding, Sidney, O'Connor, St. Paul, Lexington, Cozad, Gothenburg, Ogallala and Shelton. This is why Fr. Tom has been selected as Sept s Knight of the Month. Family of the Month Robin & Judy Marshall Robin & Judy are members of St. James. Robin joined the Knights of Columbus Jan. of 2001 and the 4 th degree Nov. of 2004. Robin is active with the council with several activities within the council such as tootsie Roll drive, Parades, meetings and degrees and the fish fries. Robin and Judy are retired from the auction business. They have 3 adult sons all living in the Kearney area. They enjoy going south for the winters. This is why Robin and Judy have selected as Sept s family of the month. 1 st - 2 nd - 3 rd Degree So many times we hear that guys don t want to take candadates out of town for there 2 nd & 3 rd degree. Well here is you chance to have a degree right at home. We will have a 1 st, 2 nd & 3rd degree at the K of C hall on Oct. 23, 2016. If that weekend does not work, there will be one in Broken Bow the week before. We would like to have a good turnout. We have 70 members who have only had there 1 st degree. If you know someone who has only had there 1 st degree ask them to come get all degrees. For all new 1 st - 2 nd - 3 rd degree members we have a special gift for them. For all you 3 rd degree members that have not seen the new degree, it is worth your time to come see it. I have heard guys tell me they have not seen a degree sense they took there degree when they become a member. Our teams are right here in Kearney and work hard to put on these degrees. The new 3 rd degree is very impressive and worth your time to see. If you signed up a new member it is your duty to be there with him. So set aside Oct. 23, 2016. First degree will be a 1 st degree at 11:00 AM with the 2 nd degree at 1:00 PM and the 3 will follow.

Field Agent Message Michael Scholz,FICF 308-991-6157 Raising Awareness About Life Insurance Each September since 2003 has been designated as Life Insurance Awareness Month. Like most awareness-raising campaigns, Life Insurance Awareness Month was created because there is an overwhelming lack of understanding of life insurance, its uses, its benefits, and its variations among the general public. Each year, the Life Insurance Market Research Association (LIMRA) puts out the results from a recent survey, and unfortunately, the numbers they report continue to be discouraging. A recent survey found that more than 75 percent of people polled did not have a personal financial advisor, even though 68 percent of them said their opinion of the current economic conditions was somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable. In other words, a majority of those surveyed were uncomfortable with the economy and the uncertainty it brings, yet they did not seek professional assistance. Maybe they spoke with their friends and family. Maybe they hoped the instability would go away on its own. Maybe they did not know to whom to turn. If you fall into this category, please remember that as a member of the Knights of Columbus, you have a full-time, professional agent you can call your own. My primary responsibility is the care and service of your family s life insurance, retirement and long-term care needs. I ll answer your questions because I want your decisions to be informed ones. I want to help. Another LIMRA statistic said 43 percent of people did not buy life insurance because they worry about making the wrong decision. Talk with me, your agent, and, afterwards, you ll understand that the only wrong decision was not purchasing sooner to protect your family s future. Michael Scholz, FICF
