The Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time J 2018 Saint Luke Church, Whitestone, New York From the Pastor PRIESTHOOD ORDINATIONS On Saturday, June 30, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio ordained five men to the priesthood for the Church of Brooklyn and Queens. Among those ordained was Joseph Franklin Dutan who was assigned to Saint Luke as part of his pastoral formation. Then Joseph Dutan was a catechist in our religious education program teaching a class of boys and girls attending Public School for one year. We rejoice with Father Dutan and his family. Please keep Father and all the newly ordained in your prayers. Pray for Priestly Vocations Bishop DiMarzio s Prayer for Vocation Lord of the Harvest, we petition you as you have instructed us to ask for more laborers to serve in the vineyard of your Church. You have told us that the harvest is rich and the laborers are few and we experience this great need in the face of the challenge of the New Evangelization. We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire young men and women to seriously consider vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Help all of us be effective instruments to encourage and support those whom you are calling to serve and lead the Church of Brooklyn and Queens in the future. Lord, you told your Apostles to put out into the deep. We ask for the grace and courage to accept your call as we pray and work for an increase in vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life. RECTORY OFFICE HOURS SUMMER SCHEDULE Beginning Sunday, July 1st, the Rectory Office will begin a summer schedule for office hours. Please note the following: Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 5:00pm (Closed for lunch from 12 noon to 1:00pm) Friday the Rectory Office is closed. Saturday - 9:00am - 3:00pm Sunday the Rectory Office is closed. Emergency sick calls requiring a priest can be made at any time by calling the Rectory. Please call ahead to make an appointment with a priest for any other needs. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. We will return to normal Rectory Office hours on Tuesday, September 4th. Just a Reminder... No meetings will take place during the summer months of July and August. All meetings of parish organizations, groups, prayer groups and societies will resume after Labor Day During the months of July & August, there will be only one weekday Mass at 12 noon (Monday-Friday). The church will be closed after the 12 noon Mass Monday through Friday. There will be no changes to the Saturday and Sunday Mass schedules. 2
CONSOLATION MINISTRY Our Consolation Ministry at St. Luke offers assistance to families who are preparing to bury a loved one by guiding them through the process of planning the Mass of Christian burial that will be celebrated for the deceased, and attending the funeral mass in support of the family. We are fortunate to have a devoted group of Consolation Ministers whose compassion is a great comfort to the families grieving the loss of loved ones. We are in need of additional parishioners to assist in our Consolation Ministry so we ask that anyone interested in more information about this very important ministry or in joining the ministry please call Sister Theresa at (718)746-8531. BAPTISM PROGRAM When preparing for the Baptism of your child, parents must attend a Pre-Baptism Class. Godparents are welcome and encouraged to attend. The class is held once a month usually on the third Monday night of the month at 7:30pm. The Baptismal Liturgy is usually celebrated on the second and fourth Sunday of the month at 3pm. No Baptism can take place until the church receives a copy of the child s Birth Certificate as required by the diocese. SAINT LUKE S PURGATORIAL SOCIETY Enrollment Mass cards for your deceased relatives and friends may be purchased in the Rectory Office. The enrollment is for one year from the date of enrollment.
