The Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav nly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. RENEWAL The Call to Renewal John 15:9-17 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another. 6
The Prayer of Confession based on Psalm 10 Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted. Bring us into your presence and fill us with your Spirit, your Holy Spirit. Make us constantly aware of your presence, for you are not far off. Give us the character of those who are always near you. Give us the radiance of holiness, the joy of holiness, the peace of holiness. In the name of Jesus, our Emmanuel, we pray, Amen. The Private Confession of Sin The Assurance of Forgiveness 1 John 1:9; 2:1-2 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 7
The Hymn of Encouragement Before the Throne of God Above Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea. A great high Priest whose Name is Love Who ever lives and pleads for me. My name is graven on His hands, My name is written on His heart. I know that while in heaven He stands No tongue can bid me thence depart. When Satan tempts me to despair And tells me of the guilt within, Upward I look and see Him there Who made an end of all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died My sinful soul is counted free. For God the just is satisfied To look on Him and pardon me. Behold Him there the risen Lamb, My perfect spotless righteousness, The great unchangeable I AM, King of glory and of grace, One in Himself I cannot die. My soul is purchased by His blood, My life is hid with Christ on high, With Christ my Savior and my God! 8
COMMITMENT The Reading of God s Holy Word Genesis 32: 1-3, 20-30 Pew Bible p. 18 1 Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. 2 And when Jacob saw them he said, This is God's camp! So he called the name of that place Mahanaim. 3 And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother in the land of Seir, the country of Edom, 20 and you shall say, Moreover, your servant Jacob is behind us. For he thought, I may appease him with the present that goes ahead of me, and afterward I shall see his face. Perhaps he will accept me. 21 So the present passed on ahead of him, and he himself stayed that night in the camp. 22 The same night he arose and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 He took them and sent them across the stream, and everything else that he had. 24 And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. 25 When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. 26 Then he said, Let me go, for the day has broken. But Jacob said, I will not let you go unless you bless me. 27 And he said to him, What is your name? And he said, Jacob. 28 Then he said, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed. 29 Then Jacob asked him, Please tell me your name. But he said, Why is it that you ask my name? And there he blessed him. 30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying, For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered. 9

The Hymn of Departure Thanks for the Victory Each step along earth's pilgrimage our knowing God directs. To all who claim the Savior's name, He graciously perfects. In ev'ry stage of life there is a change that must be made. "Oh change me to Christ-likeness Lord," many times I've prayed. Chorus: Thanks for the vict'ry You give for each hour. Thanks for provision to claim your matchless pow'r. Thanks for the trials Your vict'ry can claim. May ev'ry testing bring honor to Your name. Sometimes I've failed You, Lord, among the victories You gave; And yet You've never cast me down, You willingly forgave. Yet even through the failures, You design a sure defense, Of knowledge, strength, and lessons learned, That make a difference. Chorus The Benediction Pastor Rick Vasquez Postlude Timothy Hughes On Eagle s Wings by Michael Joncas, Arr. by Craig Courtney 11
