P a g e 5 IMPORTANT! Ed Moser is looking to find someone to set up a display case in January at the Caldwell Library with their special rocks and specimens. Please contact Ed for more information. Collecting Rocks I think that there shall never be An ignoramus just like me, Who roams the hills throughout the day To pick up rocks that do not pay For there s one thing I ve been told I take the rocks and leave the gold. O er deserts wild or mountains blue I search for rocks of varied hue. A hundred pounds or more I pack With blistered feet and aching back, And after this is said and done I cannot name a single one. I pick up rocks where e er I go, The reason why I do not know, For rocks are found by fools like me Where God intended them to be. Author Unknown Orma J. Smith Museum of Natural History The Orma J. Smith Museum of Natural History features specimens representing the Biology and Geology of SW Idaho, SE Oregon, and northern Nevada. In 2017, Erik went out on a beach in Lake Superior (Michigan) with a UV light and discovered dozens of these glowing rocks. To the naked eye, they loohk like gray rocks, but under the UV light, the mineral composite makes the rocks glow. From humble beginnings, Yooperlites are now an internet and news phenomenon and have been featured on TV and news sites across the globe. Erik wants people of all ages to learn more about Yooperlites and other rocks and minerals. Check out google for more info. *taken from Wasatch Gem Society Nov. 2018
