Kindergarten-2nd June 6-7, 2015 Creation Genesis 1; Philippians 4:6 Adv. Bible for Early Readers (pp. 2-3, 1382) Connect Time (15 minutes): Five minutes after the service begins, split kids into groups and begin their activity. Large Group (30 minutes): Begin 20 minutes after the service starts. Model what it looks like to be engaged in large group. God made everything out of nothing. This is kids first weekend in a new room! Many of them may feel nervous or unsure of what to do or expect. Show kids around, introduce them to each other and talk to them about what to expect in their new room. Small Group (15 minutes): Keep kids in small groups until parents arrive. If you all have extra time at the end, you can review the video and songs together. As kids leave, encourage them to tell their parents what they drew on their colored notecard, and why they drew it. Today, we re talking about how God made the whole world out of nothing. It reveals His immense power over everything and helps us understand that part of our relationship with him should be one of worship, honor and total awe at our creator.
GOAL: Connect Time is all about engaging kids in an activity that allows them to connect with each other right away while simultaneously piquing their curiosity for Large Group and preparing their minds for what they re going to hear. CREATING GAME *Break kids into small groups. Since it s kids first day in your room, introduce yourself and explain that Connect Time is when you play a game to start thinking about today s story. Then ask kids to share (1) their names and (2) the coolest thing they ve ever made (out of paper, blocks, play-dough, etc.) Give each kid some plastic shapes from your group s bag (they can combine and work with a partner if they want). Call out the things below and and give kids a minute or two to design each one. For fun, make it a race! (Tell kids there s no wrong way to do this!) o Dog o Tree o Mountain o River o Flower o Horse o Rainbow o Kids Choice! Debrief: Was it hard to make those? Why or why not? If you have extra time, ask kids to share the best and worst parts of their week. Before you go to Large Group, ask kids how their week went. You can also remind kids of the expectations for Large Group behavior: (1) be kind, (2) listen when somebody speaks, and (3) follow the leader s instructions.
Goal: Kids will (1) understand that God made everything, (2) recognize how amazing it is that he made it from nothing and (3) praise him for being our Creator. Why? Knowing God is our Creator can ultimately help us surrender to him. Tip: For the month of June, really focus on helping kids learn Philippians 4:6. You ll see more games to help you do that, but for now, take the time to read it and have kids repeat it multiple times. REVIEW THE STORY 1. What was it like before God created the world? 2. What did God create first? (light) 3. How did God create light? 4. How did God create everything? 5. Why can God make something out of nothing? ACTIVITY: CREATION CHARADES Stand in a circle (or stay seated if that works best in your room). Ask each kid to think of his/her favorite part of creation. Play charades by taking turns acting it out (like the game played in Large Group). After each charade lead the kids in saying, Thank you God! Sit (if you were standing) and read Philippians 4:6 together (verse card) out loud. Remind kids that God LOVES it when we thank him for being a great creator. ACTIVITY: THANK YOU PLAN Pass out notecards (let kids choose a color) Kids should draw their favorite thing God created Encourage them to keep this somewhere they ll see every day and remember to say Thank you God. *Pray together, thanking God for being a perfect creator. Give kids a creation coloring page. If you still have extra time, play the shapes games again.

1 Remember, it s Move Up Weekend! Some kids are in a new room for the first time. For younger kids especially, they may be feeling nervous. They also might not have had much experience in a learning environment. June is our Science Experiment series! We ll watch one science experiment and go over Philippians 4:6 every weekend. Hi everybody! Welcome to Kids Club. I m so happy to see you guys here today. In fact, I see a LOT of new faces. That s because everybody in Kids Club got to move up to a brand new room this weekend. My name is and I love being a part of (age group) in Kids Club! Wasn t it fun to start out by making all those things with your crazy shapes? Raise your hand if you made a tree (let kids respond). OK, who can tell me how you made your tree? (Let one kid respond.) That s great! You put the shapes together and created a tree. It s fun to make things isn t it? We might make things out of blocks or dirt or cloth or paper. If you have ever made something before, give me a thumbs up (let kids respond). Does anybody want to share what you made? (Let 4-5 kids share.) Those things sound awesome! CREATING LIGHT Well, today, we re going to talk about the first time anything was EVER made. Close your eyes for a second (let kids respond). You shouldn t be able to see anything. If you can, squeeze your eyes closed even tighter. You shouldn t see any people or things. That s how the world used to be, in the very beginning of time. There was nothing. Now open your eyes. (Click to show the blank slide.) The world was empty, like this picture. But God loves to create things, and he wanted to make a world full of wonderful things. And the very first thing He made was light. Point at something light in this room (let kids point). Great! Yes, we have lights all around now. And that s because God created them. Let s do a science experiment to think about how to make light! I m excited because for the whole month of June, we re going to be doing some awesome experiments in Kids Club. Our experiment is on a video today. Let s see if we can figure out how we can make some of the lights we have (point to any artificial light in the room).
Video: Building A Light Bulb (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlbzdydks10; 0:03-1:02) Pretty cool, huh? Can anybody tell me how that guy made a light bulb? (Let 1-2 kids try to explain.) Yeah, he took a lot of different things like batteries, tape, a toilet paper roll, and a jar and put them together. Kind of like how we can take flour and sugar and eggs and mix them together, bake them and have a cake! HOW GOD CREATED LIGHT (Click to another blank slide.) But if the guy in the video had nothing, like this, could he have created light? (Let kids say: No!) No, and why not? (Let kids respond.) That s right, we can t make something out of nothing. But remember, there was nothing (refer to slide) when God decided to make the whole world, starting with light. We re going to watch a video about how God created not only light but also trees, flowers, mountains, fish, clouds and everything! As you watch, see if you can figure out how GOD created light and everything else. Video: God s Story / Creation Wow, so how did GOD create light? Did He have a few batteries and jars and toilet paper rolls? (Let kids respond.) That s right, He said, Let there be light! He just SPOKE and things appeared, exactly as he imagined them to be. GOD IS OUR CREATOR Why do you think He could do that? (Let kids respond.) He s God he s more powerful than anything we can imagine. He can do things that are impossible for us. He is our creator. Just like you guys created a tree with those shapes. Who was in charge when you guys were making your shape creations? Was it your shapes or was it you? (Let kids say: Us!) Yes, you were in charge! You were the ones putting the shapes where you wanted them. And that s what God did with the world he made everything just how he wanted it. And does anybody remember what God called the things he made? (Let kids say: Good!) Yes, he called them all GOOD. Everything He made was just like he wanted it. WORSHIP GOD AS CREATOR We know that everything isn t perfect now. That s because God didn t make people like those shapes that just sit there. He lets us CHOOSE to go where he wants us to go or not. And we all make choices NOT to go where God wants us to go sometimes. But that s another part of the story. Today, we re just going to celebrate the way God made everything perfect in the beginning. And how the trees and water and sky and wind and grass and animals were perfect! Let s tell God how great we think his world is. We re going to play a game where I call out my favorite part of creation and then you put your body in the shape of it or act it out. Some of them might be hard, but let s have some fun and I ll help you. You guys can call out some of your favorites too. Ready? Stand up! (Let kids stand.)
(You can use the bullets below for ideas or make up your own. But give kids chances to say their favorite parts of creation too. Then just do your best to act it out similar to the suggestions below. Do 5-10 based on the engagement level of your group. Then continue.) Ocean (pretend to be surfing on the waves) Cat (make your hands paws and meow) Flower (stand tall and put your hands out on each side of your face like petals ) Cheetah (run in place as fast as you can) Rock (freeze in place) Kid choices Great job! Everybody have a seat. (Let kids sit.) I love to think about how perfect everything was when God first made it and how amazing God is because he made all this stuff out of nothing. Let s take a minute and tell God how great his creation is. When we do that, we are giving Him our praise! He loves it when we thank him. In the Bible, Philippians 4:6 tells us about it. It says: SLIDE: Philippians 4:6: Don t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Let s read that out loud together (lead the kids, breaking it into smaller, repeatable phrases). PRAY Now let s pray, like the verse says. That means talk to God. Let s all think of one thing He created. Just think about it in your head. Got it? In your head, thank God for it! (Give kids a few seconds.) You guys just praised God and thanked him for what he did! (Then ask somebody to come up and thank God for his perfect creation.) WORSHIP Now let s thank God right now by singing to him. Our first song is all about how God made the whole world. Our second song reminds us that He gives us joy and we can dance, shout and sing to him!
