The Rosary Catholic Primary School 8 th March 2019 Aspire, Believe, Achieve: Together in Christ Telephone: 020 8570 4942 email: office@rosary.hounslow.sch.uk www.rosary.hounslow.sch.uk Weekly Prayer and Reflection First Sunday in Lent (Year C) Luke 4:1-13 Reflection taken from Cafod Children s Liturgy God of life, your Son Jesus went out into the desert to spend time in prayer and be closer to you. Help us to draw closer to you this Lent, in our prayers and in our actions. Through Christ our Lord, Amen. Before Jesus started his ministry He went out into the desert for 40 days to pray and be closer to God. While Jesus was in the desert he had hardly any food to eat or water to drink. How do you think he must have felt being alone and not having enough to eat? There are many people around the world who struggle to get enough food. People like Rabiul, who is 12 and lives in Bangladesh with his mum and dad. Rabiul has a disability. His right arm and leg don t work very well, so he has to use his left hand to do most things. He also finds it harder to learn than some other children. His mother is worried that she won t have any food to give to Rabiul. She tries to earn money by cleaning other people s homes, but it s still not enough. Can you imagine what it would feel like if you asked your parents for some food and they said they had nothing to give you? What would you do? Would you help your neighbour if they needed some food? Lent is a time when we try extra hard to help other people. Lent is a time when, like Jesus in the desert, we spend 40 days trying to come closer to God. We look at our lives and prepare ourselves for Easter. We try to pray more and share more, thinking less about ourselves and more about other people our neighbours at home and around the world. We can be closer to God by praying, asking for forgiveness for all the things that we have done wrong, and trying to live the kind of life that God wants for us. One thing that many people do during Lent is to give something up so that they can give more away to people who have less than they do. People like Rabiul in Bangladesh. Are you giving up something this Lent? What are you giving up? Every time you eat something during Lent, remember to pray for Rabiul and all those who struggle to get enough food to eat.
Nursery Applications for September 2019 Applications are now being taken for Nursery places in September 2019. If your child was born between 1 st September 2015 and 31 st August 2016, your child is eligible for a Nursery place in our school in September 2019. The closing date for applications is 3 rd May 2019. Application packs are available through the main office and via our website: www.rosary.hounslow.sch.uk/admissions1.html. On Wednesday, to mark the beginning of Lent all the children in KS2 attended the Parish Mass. Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. Ash Wednesday happens 46 days - 40 fasting days, not counting Sundays - before Easter Sunday. We would like to thank Fr Luigi for bringing the ashes to school after Mass so that all the children and staff in the Infants could receive the ashes. Book Week 2019: 7 th -14 th March Book Week started yesterday with a fancy dress parade. All the children made a very special effort for the day. We will be selling the books at our book fair on Monday 11 th and Tuesday 12 th March in the Junior Hall from 3:30pm. As a result of last year s book fair, we raised a considerable amount of money which we were then able to use to buy books for each year group. Thank you for your generosity and please continue to support your children s reading by attending the event. Book Fair gift vouchers are the simple, secure way to ensure that your child gets their desired books when the Book Fair arrives. Even better, you ll get 20% extra free when you buy online (travellingbooks.co.uk/parents ) meaning a 6 voucher costs 5 and a 12 voucher costs 10. Once a purchase has been made, you will receive the voucher in an email which can be printed and given to your child. Thank you. School Photographs The photographer was in school on Monday taking individual and family pictures of the pupils. You should have by now received your proofs. Please make sure you return your orders in the envelopes provided by 18 th March. You can also order online. Unfortunately, orders that are received after this date will incur a 4.00 administration charge.
