IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH 600 EAST NORTHLINE ROAD, TUSCOLA, ILLINOIS, 61953 (217) 253-4341 WWW.IMMANUELTUSCOLA.ORG Volume 1, Issue 1 September 2010 From Pastor s Desk... As the summer comes to a close, we eagerly anticipate the new endeavors that lay before us and wonder at the possibilities they hold. The church, too, looks forward to these last weeks of the church year with renewed hope in our Lord s promise that he is with us and that he is coming back (Matt 28:20). Meanwhile, we prepare for his return by learning all that he has to teach (Matt 28:20). We delight in the study of his Word, which gives life and light. We live in a broken world, a world fragmented and polluted by sin and death. The only answer to this is found in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which brings wholeness to the broken, order to the fragmented chaos, and purification for the polluted in the forgiveness of our sin. The death and resurrection of Jesus put everything back into order. They make all things new, and the world makes sense again. But let s face it: If we don t instill in ourselves, and in our children, a Christian and uniquely Lutheran worldview, we will not be prepared to answer the big questions of life (e.g., Why am I here? Who is God, and where do I find him? Is the Bible trustworthy? etc.). If we don t train up ourselves, and our children in the Way, we will be unprepared to engage in the battle for our minds and hearts. This battle rages on in the media, the workplace, and classrooms across America, and it pits science against the Bible, reason agains faith, and calls the faithful feeble-minded and week. Our program is designed with these things in mind. From the youngest to the oldest, from Preschool to the Adult Bible Class, we will approach these issues, providing the tools so that you may always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you (1 Pet 3:15). Come, join us for Bible Class and at 10:15 a.m. after the 9:00 a.m. Divine Service on Sundays. It s a reason for hope. Pastor Braaten pastor.braaten@gmail.com Immanuel Lutheran Church 1
