June 24, 2018 - Nativity of St. John the Baptist Good News - Page 3 Hello, people of Sacred Heart & Saint Matthew s parishes! With a few weeks to go before my arrival in Horicon and Neosho, I wanted to send my greetings and express excitement for my upcoming assignment. It was with great joy and relief that the Archdiocese assigned me to you all, as priest placement can be an unpredictable process at the best of times. When all this began about a year ago, I was entirely on the fence with respect to moving forward in my life as a priest. There were good and bad reasons for remaining at Saint Frances Cabrini and Immaculate Conception in West Bend transferring parishes while remaining an associate pastor vs. taking on my own church as pastor. For months and months I prayed about those possibilities and talked it over with just about every priest and wise person in my life. At the end of the day, we decided that the best thing would be for me to meet the needs of the Archdiocese and move up from associate pastor to pastor. That was agreed upon across the board, on the condition that I became responsible for a small and non-overwhelming parish. After all, with a mere four years under my belt, I simply don t have the experience to truly meet the needs of a large suburban parish. So with all that in my thoughts and prayers, it is exhilarating to be assigned to Sacred Heart and St Matthew s. I simply cannot wait to begin meeting the people of the parishes, and it is such a relief to know that there will be chance to give everyone the attention they deserve. In that way, I do believe that we re going to be a good fit for one another. In addition to that consideration, you should know that people speak extremely highly of your parishes. People have been constantly informing me that the down-to-earth hospitality and authenticity of Sacred Heart is hard to beat. Surely, reports of this nature can only be indications of a spiritually healthy congregation. We will get to know each other better, as the weeks and months pass. Parish visions will be planned and lived out; experiences will be shared; our faith will grow, in peace and truth and compassion. All that will happen in time and with patience. For now, in the final weeks before a priestly transition, know that there is great potential for goodness and prosperity in the future. I hope we can all give it a fair chance together, and know that I am deeply honored to soon be a part of your community, and a part of your lives. Until June 19th, enjoy the end of spring and may God bless you all! Peace, Father Justin Lopina In one month our free Vacation Bible School Program will begin! This year instead of snacks, I am in charge of Crafts. Your response for donations has been so good in the past that I am asking again. If you can help out with any of the listed below, please call me (920-326-3290), or take them to the Parish Office where I will get them. THANKS in advance. Page 4 - Good News Nativity of St. John the Baptist - June 24, 2018 In order to process the weekly collection in a timely manner we are asking parishioners to follow these guidelines. PLEASE DO NOT... Tape or staple your envelopes Fold your cash into small shapes PLEASE DO... Use your envelopes----it saves time and provides for more accurate recordkeeping On the Red Envelopes: Circle one (1) of the designated amounts per line that is enclosed on the outside of the envelope (if the dollar amount is not listed then write it legibly in the other box). In this example: if one check for $75 is enclosed in this envelope, then $50 will be allocated to Ministry and $25 to the Mortgage. Note: if nothing is indicated on either line, then all the monies will be automatically allocated to the Ministry. On the Green Envelopes: Write the dollar amounts per line that you wish to allocate to each fund. In this example: if one check for $40 is enclosed in this envelope, then each fund will receive the indicated amount listed. OR - Donate online: Note: if nothing is indicated on any of the lines, then all the funds will be allocated to the Mortgage Support. For each fund you can make a one time donation at your convenience or set up for automatic donations to occur on a regular basis (weekly or monthly). Donating online is similar to other transactions you make on the internet. The WeShare site is secure. When you use your checking or savings accounts it feels like you re making a payment online. (Note, this option is the least expensive for Sacred Heart to process.) When you use your credit card, it feels like you are purchasing something. By Kim Spittel Yay! Summer is here. Along with summer comes all kinds of secular activities. Such events that take us away from home and we attend Mass at other parishes. But, these activities are not just for the summer travelers. Every season, there are volunteers traveling and attending events away from home. The kids may be in softball now, but in the fall it is volleyball or football; and during the winter it s basketball. Of course, don t forget the retired who travel south for the winters and north for summers. Unfortunately, this leaves the few who don t travel to take on much more volunteering. So much that, they can (and soon will be) burnt out! The schedules are out thru August 26. Many are taking on double duty, and are committing to volunteering every weekend. If you are not on the schedule, and attend Mass, please step up and give one of these volunteers a break! Yes, New Volunteers are needed for all liturgical ministry positions. I hope the above info doesn t scare off any new prospects. This is not the norm! The goal is for volunteers to serve only 2-4 times a schedule. If you are willing to volunteer, please call me at 920-485-0694 x221 or email <sheartchurch@sbcglobal.net> for more info. We have excellent trainers! ~ Greeter ~ Server ~ Lector ~ Usher ~ Communion Distributor ~ Hospitality

June 24, 2018 - Nativity of St. John the Baptist Good News - Page 5 Practical Hints for Welcoming A New Priest By Jackie Bulman 1. Be Patient. 2. Don't beat a path to his door. Give him time to unpack and get settled. 3. Make sure he has the help - when he needs it. 4. Let him change his mind. He will learn our ways and we will learn what he wants. Give him wiggle room. 5. Don't compare. Let him be himself. 6. Let him know our traditions are important values of our parish. 7. Let him get to know you. Remember he has many members to meet. We only have one - him. 8. Pray for him and let him know you are praying for him. Welcome Father Justin! Teen s Summertime Service in Lake Traverse, SD By Bill Thimm On July 22nd one carload of teens and parents from our Sacred Heart/St. Matthew youth ministry program will spend one week serving the needs of the Lake Traverse, SD community. Our teens will donate their time and talents to the community through painting, cleaning, helping with yard work, or doing other simple work projects. There will be an opportunity to partner with local assisted living homes. Our youth will also plan and lead children s programming, including Bible lessons, games, crafts, and reading activities. While our teens are in Lake Traverse, they will also learn about the Native culture of the area, visit Fort Sisseton, and join the community for a cookout. Thank you teens and parents for serving people in need this summer! We pray for a safe journey and for the needs of those you serve! Mark Your Calendars Now...
