Hallelujah! Hallelujah! I hope you and your family used the Lenten season to become closer to our Lord by praying, fasting, giving alms and listening to his voice. And now? Now, we have been delivered. The Lord, our God has given us new life and clearly showed us the way to Heaven. All we have to do is follow. And what a better way to follow than being a Knight of Columbus! The path is laid out before you, Charity, Unity, and Fraternity and the month of April provides us all with ample opportunities for blessings (Corporate Communion), helping others (KOVAR), growing in the faith together (5th Sunday Rosary), and strengthening our family (60th Anniversary Celebration). Yes, as I noted last month, April is a very busy month for the Council. I won t repeat all of the important dates here they are above in the masthead; nor will I plead, beg, or grovel for your support the support the Council desperately needs to make this one of the most memorable months in our 60 year history (you can find all the details under the Help Wanted section elsewhere in this newsletter). The way has been clearly laid out, all you have to do is follow. May God continue to bless you and your families! GK Roger KNIGHT OF THE MONTH Behind the scenes, but always right in front of you, this month s Knight of the Month is SK Dan Zaharevich, the esteem editor of this outstanding monthly newsletter. SK Dan has been editing, formatting, and pushing out the news of the Council for nearly two years. During Brother Dan s time as editor,

the newsletter has been consistently published on time, received a professional makeover and has received acclaim inside and outside of the Council several of this year s editions have been submitted to the State Council s Newsletter of the Year competition. Our newsletter, particularly for our Knights outside of our region, is the source for information and keeping tabs on all of our good works it is vital to the Council s wellbeing. Brother Dan, Editor-in-Chief of The Knightly News, thank you and congratulations on being the April 2018 Knight of the Month! FAMILY OF THE MONTH SK Joseph King and his mother, Concetta (Connie) King, are recognized as the Council s, Family of the Month. Brother Joe King has been recognized as our Knight of the Month on two occasions this fraternal year for his outstanding efforts on all fronts of Council activities. We also recognize the old adage, behind every good man there is a good woman in this case, Joe s mother, Connie. Connie is this year s President of the Casey Women s Club (CWC). The CWC membership is primarily wives or widows of PJPII Knights. They support the Knights throughout the year, helping with the Christmas Dinner and Summer Picnic, making cookies for Christ House dinners, and producing Christmas Baskets among many other activities. Connie most recently has been an avid contributor to the planning and execution of the Council s 60th Anniversary Celebration. The King Family is a major contributor to the successes of the Council and richly deserves the recognition as April 2018 s Family of the Month! Congratulations! FISH FRY FRIDAY, A TWO FOR The WIND, the RAIN, and then the SNOW! What a month March turned out to be! March came in, not like a lamb or lion much more like a howling wolf or coyote. Sustained winds above 25-30 mph for days, with gusts measured near hurricane levels caused havoc throughout the metropolitan area including cancellation of our first Friday Fish Fry of the Lenten season on March 2nd at Queen of Apostles. But never fear, our Knights remained at the ready and completed our first, last and only Fish Fry of the season on Friday, March 16th a two for one if you will. Led by SK Roger Bion (as directed by his wife, Hennriette, in the kitchen) and SK Joe Lynem, a sizeable group of Knights put on a great fish fry for the parishioners of Queen of Apostles, before, during and after the parish s, Stations of the Cross prayer service. Generous, as Knights are, and given the overwhelming attendance, we ran out of fish towards the end of service (tilapia must not be of the biblical variety). Even then, the parishioners were having such a good time, we actually had to remind the remaining few they had to leave or become part of the cleaning crew. Over all, the only Fish Fry of the season was a great success and was due to the outstanding support of our Knights, Brothers Roger, Joe, Ray, Al, Leo, Sandy, Patrick, Afo, Innocent, and Son. God Bless you all!! 2018/2019 COUNCIL AND CASEY CLUB NOMINATIONS Each Officer position is vitally important in efficiently running the Council, developing fundraisers, identifying ways the Council can assist the parish and the community, and growing the faith in one another. Therefore, it is not infrequent, that we call to mind the curse associated with the first fall from grace in the Garden of Eden: In toil you shall eat its yield (Gn 3:17). Work is seen many times as a necessary evil: something we don t like, but need to do in order to earn enough to eat. However, this is not necessarily the only vision of Christ and the Church regarding work. Christ said: My Father is at work until now, so I am at work (Jn 5:17). Jesus was not ashamed to grow up and be known as the son of a carpenter in the house of a manual worker, St. Joseph (Mt 13:55). St. Paul reminded the Thessalonians that, if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat (2 Thes 3:10). The Catechism of the Catholic Church also states, Work honors the Creator s gifts and the talents received from him. It can be also redemptive [ ]. Work can be a means of sanctification and a way of animating earthly realities with the Spirit of Christ (CCC 2427). So, work is meant to be lived as a mission from God in a dual sense. Through our work, we cooperate with God s work of creation. Creation is not something that happened only in the past, but is an ongoing process in which new things come to be. With our work, we bring forth new realities, new projects, new products, and new fruits. As we begin our work, we should entrust it to God s providential care. Then as we enjoy the results of this work, we must offer them back to God in thanksgiving. Work is also a mission of charity. Every honest job we perform builds up society. We don t work just for personal interest or the good of our family, but we take care of the needs of other people. Our work is also a mission in the sense that we can become missionaries to our co-workers. Nothing is random in God s plan; through his providence he has put certain people in your life to work with, even if some of them might be a source of suffering for you. It is possible that your example or words could help them become closer to God. Do not be afraid of sharing your faith at work, having a conversation about God and his mercy in your life, blessing your meals, or displaying signs of your faith in your work place. You can even help them draw closer to God by inviting them to pray, or to attend a parish celebration. Perhaps God wants to make a difference in their lives through your mediation pray about it. Blessing of the Month: Lord God, you fashioned the world, and created humanity in your image. Even now you breathe your Spirit upon me, that I may help to renew the face of the earth. Bless me, Lord, in my work, and open my eyes to see the opportunities it brings me to share your love and mercy with others. Amen. Like us on Facebook! Page 4 of 6
