For some it is a very divisive question (ethically, socially and politically) that they would do well not to talk about it or be ready for a verbal tussle, and for others it is simply something unpleasant that they have to sweep it under the rug. I, as a priest, feel we need to talk about it for the simple reason that life is an invaluable gift from God and we must protect it. Abortion is an act of murder and it has to end. When the scandal regarding Planned Parenthood s selling of body parts from aborted babies exploded last week, a lot of people were awakened from their deep slumber and from their I-don t-do-it-so-i-don t-care attitude. Many were aghast and could hardly believe what they discovered. Some wanted to s Tell me it ain t so. Sadly, yes, it is so, and now we know. If you checked the second video I mentioned in last week s bulletin, you would probably want to go easy with the I want a Lamborghini doctor and s she was just kidding. Who can really tell? Whether those doctors directly bene it from the sale of body parts or not is not the crux of the matter. The murder of babies and the direct mutilation of the body to harvest organs to be sold for monetary gain (for company or personal gain) are the main issues here. As I have mentioned before, abortion is evil enough. Mutilation of the baby for inancial bene it makes it even worse. Now, the third and fourth videos just came out the third video is a true confession of a lady who was brie ly employed at an organ procurement facility where she discussed how practitioners sorted out baby parts that have just been harvested. When she was made to do the sorting herself, she felt pain all over her body and blacked-out. In the fourth video, a doctor spoke of how they are trying to look good and not get caught doing something that the public will not like. Both videos also showed how the practitioners even named prices for each intact tissue and organ. Let me warn you that the videos are EXTREMELY GRAPHIC AND DISTURBING and can leave a deep scar in your memory. If you have a weak heart and you might be bothered by images of tiny baby limbs, arms, ingers, feet and heart then please do not watch the videos. But if you have the courage to know what they do to these innocent and helpless babies, then go ahead and watch them. I assure you, you will be stunned and will end up pring for mercy. You can easily ind them on YouTube. You m also check out the website of Center for Medical Progress for the other videos. I have alws wondered how they disposed of the aborted baby (fetus) after the procedure. Did they even give the poor child a decent burial? (I would answer my own question with If they can do this to the baby, would they even care for a decent burial?) I looked on the internet for some answers and I found quite a few, like this one: The fetus or contents of pregnancy are usually sent to the Pathology Lab to be examined and the contents con irmed. Unless expressed otherwise, the contents are then sent to the hospital s incinerator or medical waste company for proper disposal. They have to go in the clinical waste bin, which to be honest, is effectively the same as being thrown aw. Some, however, are used to do tests on for things like stem cell research. The embryo or fetus is treated like biological waste according to the law, unless the patient wants it to bury. If you don't want to bury it or have a ceremony, the fetus is cremated as medical waste. (Source: AOL as quoted by Smokies Hiker) So generally, the remains are regarded as medical waste. It is sad, and it makes our hearts sink. The videos I mentioned earlier prove that an 11 weeker (as they called the baby) is not just a blob of cells, but a developed human being who deserved to live. Sadly, she never had a chance. "I am the living bread come down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever." Three astonishing claims in one sentence. First: Jesus announces that he came from heaven. Second: He ss that he is bread for people to eat. Third: He promises eternal life to anyone who eats this bread. What a lineup! What tremendous faith he expected of these people to believe such radical statements. First, he wants them to believe that he was sent by God the Father. He wants them to believe that he is one with God. If we ever struggle to believe this, just imagine how much harder it must have been for these folks who knew him as a normal guy: "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he s, 'I have come down from heaven'?" We have the benefit of Scripture, the tradition of the church, thousands of years of Christian witness, and the sacraments to convince us of who Jesus is. They didn't. Next, he does all this talking about bread. He refers to the miraculous manna--bread that fed the wandering Jews in the desert--and then claims that he is the new manna. He is the true bread; his lesh, in fact, is this bread. His body will become food. Again, we have the whole history of Eucharistic faith, devotion, and miracles to rely on. They didn't. Finally, he goes so far as to s that in receiving him as bread, we will live forever. He promises that this intimate union with him through Communion brings with it the gift of eternal life. Yes, these three claims work together: Jesus is God. The bread of Communion is God. And this God we receive is the source of eternal life. For many people, the holyd was a special d of rest and no work and if in a Catholic school a free d (without the snow). There are 10 holy ds listed in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, but the United States has until recently only had 6. Can you name those from the list of 10? The Nativity (Christmas), Epiphany, Ascension, Corpus Christi, Mary, the Mother of God (Jan. 1), Immaculate Conception, Assumption, Feast of St. Joseph, Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, Feast of All Saints. Over the years, some of the holy ds were moved to Sunds determined by the Bishops conference and approved by Rome. Other changes that have come in are the Mass obligation being dropped if the feast occurs on a Saturd or Mond. Of course the exceptions are for Christmas (which is alws a holy d) and the feast of the Immaculate Conception (since she is the patroness of our country). So this leads to the Feast of the Assumption which is listed on the calendars for Aug. 15 th but since it falls on a Saturd, the Mass obligation does not apply in the Phoenix diocese. S S NOT.
