July Newsletter 2018 GRACE for TODAY A Word from Mike Hodgson Move Forward It s a beautiful summer day here in East Texas. The trees are full of leaves and everything is green. My best time of the year. But I know fall is coming. Some think that s the best time of the year. Then winter arrives and some think that is the best time of the year. Even just thinking about the seasons can bring us to feel the differences that we have. God lets us go through different seasons to teach us and to allow different experiences to change us into what He wants us to be. That s what we do through the Emmaus experience, change lives for the glory of God. Each and everyone of you are a special part of that wonderful opportunity to change the lives of the pilgrims. As we continue to prepare for Walks 86 and 87 let s not forget who is really in charge. Through the Holy Spirit we have a chance to bless the Pilgrims and help them to have the best Walk ever. Blessings to you all. de Colores Mike Hodgson, Community Lay Director What s Inside: Celebration of Life Report from the Treasurer July Gathering Agape Mules & Carts Walk 86 Emmaus Vendors Reunion Groups G.R.A.C.E. Website: www.graceemmaus.com Gatherings 2018 July 28 Pleasant Retreat, Tyler August 18 Crossroads, Canton October 6 Camp Gilmont October 13 Camp Gilmont November 10 Lane s Chapel A THANK YOU FROM TOM HAYGOOD Tom Haygood has asked that we let everyone know how much he appreciates the prayers and cards of support that he has received the last couple of weeks. He will be ready to have visitors and phone calls starting this Sunday, July 15. He does ask that visitors please call or text before stopping by. He extends much love to his brothers and sisters in Christ. Let's continue to keep Tom and all of his family in prayer. Fall Walks Men s October 4-7 Women s October 11-14

Celebration of Life Service A Celebration of Life Service for Nan Haygood will be held on Saturday, July 21 st at Lindale FUMC. It will begin at 11 A.M. in the Sanctuary. Following the service, all are invited to stay for lunch and fellowship which will be held in the Gym across the street from the Sanctuary. We are asking our community members to bring a potluck dish for the luncheon. These can be taken straight to the Gym upon arrival, and there will be someone there to help. Tom has asked us to not wear our Emmaus nametags or crosses to the service. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to these organizations: Hospice of East Texas 4111 University Blvd. Tyler, TX 75701 Hope Haven P.O. Box 1110 Lindale, TX 75771 G.R.A.C.E. Emmaus Community P.O. Box 132212 Tyler, TX 75713-2212 From the Trea$urer.. The blessings that we all received on our Walk to Emmaus can be experienced again by being a member of one of the teams working the Walk. Anyone can serve on one of these teams: conference room, clergy, chapel, and outside. Cost to serve at the three-day weekend is $165. This covers eight meals and three nights lodging. If someone serves only part of the weekend at Camp Gilmont, they are asked to cover the costs of meals and any overnight stays while working: meals $10 and lodging $32. You only have one walk as a pilgrim, but you can spend a lifetime as a servant of Christ, opening the eyes and hearts of others by showing His love. Betty Buchanan, Community Treasurer

The date for the July Gathering has been changed. The new date is Saturday, July 28. The location for the Gathering will still be Pleasant Retreat UMC in Tyler. We will have a potluck lunch at noon followed by a worship service and communion at 1 P.M. Please come and bring a friend. AGAPE ITEMS for EACH WALK PREFERRED: 72 of each item stored in Ziplock Bags & the number "72" written with permanent marker on each bag. (This gives the Outside Servant Team more options for distribution.) OPTIONAL: Add your REUNION GROUP NAME ON EACH ITEM (not church name). (The emphasis becomes the Reunion Group.) ALSO OPTIONAL: Should you "need" to provide 36 Agape items instead of 72, please label ziplock bags appropriately. Mules and Carts Needed for Fall Walks We have not had any response to our article in last month s newsletter asking for help with carts. If you can help provide either a golf cart or mule (also known as an ATV or UTV) this Fall, please contact Brett Walker or Wynn Harle as soon as possible. If you are looking for a way to serve but are not on a team, this might be the opportunity you have been looking for. If we have to rent these, it will come at considerable expense to the community. Please contact Brett at 903-987-3090 or Wynn at 903-245-2701 if you can help.

Our Team meetings begin on August 11 th so please keep all of us in prayer as we continue this part of our journey. Please pray for the Pilgrims, both known and unknown, so that they can have the experience that God wants them to have on these Walks. Brett Walker

ASK ME ABOUT EMMAUS It s not too early to start conversations about Emmaus with potential pilgrims. Summer is almost here and it changes many people s schedules with vacations, changes in church times, etc. To help you start conversations, wear your Ask me about Emmaus buttons and have an Emmaus pamphlet available to offer them. Try to schedule a time and place to talk with both the husband and wife or individuals, as the case may be, and be ready to share your experiences and answer any questions they may have. October will be here too soon and we would love to fill both Walks. I will have buttons, pamphlets and form letters, to send to people writing letters to pilgrims, at future Gatherings or contact me by phone or Email; ( available on the graceemmaus.com website.) Have a blessed, safe and happy Summer.
