Fr. Brian Bell, Pastor Faith Formation News Page 3 Dear Parishioners: Mother's Day Blessing The Synod on the Family was last October, and we now wait for Pope Francis to release his statement on what to do to strengthen the family in the twenty-first century. Many say that the family is under attack and we need to focus more intently on family values. One thing we may all agree on is the centrality of the figure of the mother in all families. It is that primary and central role of mother that draws family together. The mother is the glue that binds all families together. As we celebrate the tradition of Mother's Day, let us pray for our mothers, both living and deceased. Let us pray Good and gracious God, creator of all good things in the universe, your Son, Jesus Christ, loved his Mother and modeled for us how we should love our mothers. Bless all the women in our lives who model for us the love of a mother. Protect them and encourage them to love as you have loved us. Bless and protect those men in families who have no female partners and give them courage and strength to love their children in the absence of a mother. We ask all this in Your name. Amen. Yours in Christ, Father Brian T. Bell THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD Where did he go? Many times when we think of those who have died, we imagine escape from this world to a purely spiritual place. Jesus' Ascension can leave us in a place of confusion. What happens to Jesus? And why does this matter to us? The Ascension has been confirmed in the Creed for two millennia. In Jesus' Ascension, we're invited to consider our own ultimate end. Regardless of death's reality now, we believe in the resurrection of the body and the reunification of body and soul. One day, earth and heaven will meet perfectly and without end. We anticipate this "new heaven and a new earth" at every Mass and throughout the beauty, truth, and love of the Church and her members. Today, celebrate a foreshadowing of the fullness we all await! High School Teens! Come and join us for the following Life Teen Event: 5/20 - "Baccalaureate Mass and Reception" (During and after the 11am Mass) - We would like to recognize, pray for, and celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating high school seniors at a Baccalaureate Mass on Sunday, May 20th. A cake reception will follow in the Parish Hall and all are welcome to join the celebration! 6/3 - "Teens Going Deeper" (After the 11am Mass in the Game Room) - During this event, we will have a time of singing, Gospel reflection from the teen perspective, sharing, and prayer! Come and join the conversation! 6/15 - "Movie Night" (Friday from 7pm to 9:30pm in the Teen Room) Come and watch a movie with your Life Teen friends! We will serve popcorn and drinks during this event. Hope you can join us! Shannon Hards - Director, Youth Ministry 480-661-9843 x310 or youth@stboc.org CHARITY AND DEVELOPMENT APPEAL Thank you to everyone who has made a gift to the CDA.
