Opening Song: I Walk By Faith KELLY: Hello, I m Kelly Gibson. STEVIE: And I m Stevie Sims. Cue Video: 24/7 World and Copy Cue Background Music: 24/7 Show Theme Music KELLY: Welcome to 24:7. Good news! You can chose to live right! STEVIE: Our program, 24-7 is focussing on The Ten Commandments. Last week we took a look at the beginning when Moses received The Ten Commandments from God. WORSHIP LEADER: (Out in audience with wireless mic) Can anyone recite that first commandment for me? KIDS: (respond / recite commandment) WORSHIP LEADER: Here it is on the screen. God s number one commandment: Cue Video: commandment number one KELLY: Let s read it together. Repeat after me: You shall not have Any other god s Before me. STEVIE: It s time to meet our panel of guests. These people volunteered to come on our show; They felt their expertise could help us understand the meaning of this number one commandment. Puppet characters come up as introduced. KELLY: (Wait while each one comes up) Welcome Dr. Hurtz-u-not. Professor Wanda B. Smart. And inventor Ivil Wreckit. WANDA: (In the # two seating spot jumps in talking, she is an intellectual snob, very snooty and braggy) Yes, looking at the first commandment. I found the most important word to be have, (Spells it) H a v e! So, I keenly dove into the Webster s dictionary. IVIL: (Nice bumbling type) Oh, that must have hurt. You probably need to visit Doctor Hurtz u-good. DR. HURTZ: Humph! (Dr. Hurtz-u-not is insulted and throws his head back to look to the ceiling, then shakes his head.) Children s Ministry - Rock The World Resources 24-7 Episode 6: Commandment Number One revised: 8/2/07 page 2 of 7
IVIL: There must be a big lump on your head. That is one hard book to dive into. Ouch! (Rubbing his own head.) WANDA: No, no, I didn t actually dive into the book, Mr. Wreckit. I mean, I looked up the meaning of the word have and it means to obtain, to aquire, to possess. Much like my educational degrees, you see, i have a B.A. and an M.B.A. and a Doctorate and an M.S. and a B.S. DR. HURTZ: (Mean old coot) And a tongue that won t (Spells it) S, t, o, p. WANDA: (Shocked) Well! (Throws head up in air.) DR. HURTZ: To my fine tuned eye, the most important word in this commandment is the word before. Like I was supposed to speak before you (Turns to look at Wanda B Smart) As in, I am first before you (Turns to look at Wanda B Smart) As in I m in the number one seat here, and you took my turn, so WRECKIT: I, ahh, can I get a word in here? KELLY: Yes, inventor Ivil Wreckit WRECKIT: This definition is becoming one big mess. Let me say that I agree with Dr. Hurtz-ugood. DR. HURTZ: (Angrily correcting him) That s Hurtz-u-NOT, not GOOD! WRECKIT: Yes, Dr. Hurtz-u-not-not good is right when he says, Before is important, because God is saying here, that He should be first in our lives and WANDA: (Surprised) Why, yes! That s what God is saying! WRECKIT: (Mumbling, under his breath, kind of proud) And, the last shall be first DR. HURTZ: (Angry) Not fair I am in the number one seat! STEVIE: Inventor Wreckit, I m curious, what was that statement you mumbled under your breath? WRECKIT: Did I mumble something? WORSHIP LEADER: (With mic) Kids, can anyone help Mr. Wreckit remember what he mumbled? KIDS: The last shall be first. WRECKIT: Oh, yes. God mentions in the Bible that the last shall be first. And since I am in the last seat, I should be first to speak! Right, kids? KIDS: No! DR. HURTZ: No way, buddy, you re just an inventor. I am a doctor! Children s Ministry - Rock The World Resources 24-7 Episode 6: Commandment Number One revised: 8/2/07 page 3 of 7
WANDA: And I am a professor. Way more important than you. (Pointing to Dr. Hurtz-u-not) WORSHIP LEADER: (With mic) Excuse me, yes, the Lord God says the last shall be first, and interestingly enough, He says that he is the Alpha and the Omega! WANDA: Alfalfa and bacon? WRECKIT: What s that? WORSHIP LEADER: Kids, does anyone in our studio audience know what Alpha and Omega mean? KIDS: It means the first and the last! WORSHIP LEADER: That s right! He is the first and the last! He also says He is our All in All, He is our everything, which leads me back to (Walking back toward the stage and pointing to the TV screen and the commandment) the first commandment. If God is our all in all, the first and the last. If He is our everything, then, He is saying He needs to be before everything else. He needs to be number, what, in our lives? KIDS: Number One! WORSHIP LEADER: What do you think of all this, Dr. Hurtz-you-not? DR. HURTZ: I think the alfalfa and bacon sandwich sounds mighty good. (Turns to challenge the others) Last one to the cafe is a rotten egg! (Exits hurriedly stage left and down) WANDA: Oh, no you don t ladies first! (Chases after the doctor and exits stage left and down) WRECKIT: Remember, the last shall be first (Exit left and down) WORSHIP LEADER: Wait Ah We ll feed you later. Oh, well, let s stand and sing together. Cue Song: God Is #1 (short) KELLY: We need an example so let s move on to our special segment called: Picture This. Cue Video: picture this Sampson enters stage right, with long hair wig. Under wig is bald cap his head. On Sampson s arm is Delilah who is playing cutesy and coy, but when you get to center stage she whispers something into Sampson s ear. He laughingly shakes his head no. This happens two more times and then she dramatically moves away from him and crosses her arms and pouts with her face in another direction. WORSHIP LEADER: Good idea, Kelly. The Bible tells us that there was yet another time when the Israelites were disobedient so the Lord allowed them to be taken prisoner by the Philistines for forty years. Oy vey! The Philistines hated the Israelites. And they worshipped a false god. However, the God of Israel had a special mission for a young man named Sampson. He would have Sampson begin the deliverance of the Israelites from the hands of the Philistines. Ahhh, here comes Sampson and the love of his life - Delilah. She seems to be whispering something in Sampson s ear. But he doesn t seem to be agreeing with her Oops, she s really nagging at him now. Uh-oh, kids is she mad at him? KIDS: Yes! WORSHIP LEADER: Kids, what is she asking him? Why is she nagging him? Do you know the story? What does she want to know? KIDS: How is he so strong? Delilia pretends to cry. Sampson throws hands up in the air and finally gives in to telling Delilah his strength source. Sampson pantomimes during the narration. WORSHIP LEADER: Oh, look, Delilah is crying and so Samson s giving in. He s finally telling her the secret of his strength. Delilah is back to Sampson s side. As Sampson explains, she picks up a bunch of his hair and looks at it as she twirls it round her finger. She s smiling and shaking her head yes. She pantomimes that he lie down and rest on a pillow and she will rub his head. WORSHIP LEADER: Sampson says that no razor has ever touched his head because he is a Nazarite, set apart to God since birth. Sampson lies down with head toward the trees so you can easily have your wig removed and hidden under the pillow by Delilah as the barber cuts your hair. WORSHIP LEADER: Look, I guess all that nagging has tired Sampson out. He s going to lie down and Delilah will rub his head and sing a lullaby to him. Uh-oh, here comes the Barber of Sorek! Cue BG Music: Figaro (fast part) of Barber of Seville opera Barber enters stage right with big scissors. He begins to cut the hair off with much flair - swing the scissors with the music - and suddenly, Samson is bald. Barber exits stage right with wig in hand. Cue BG Music: dramatic low Soldiers enter up center aisle. Children s Ministry - Rock The World Resources 24-7 Episode 6: Commandment Number One revised: 8/2/07 page 5 of 7
WORSHIP LEADER: Oh, no, look at Delilah, she s waving for someone to come. It s the Philistine soldiers. What a rat she s betrayed Sampson. Oh, and listen to her phony cry, Sampson, the Philistines are upon you! Soldiers run in and grab Sampson as he gets up and struggles to no avail. WORSHIP LEADER: The soldiers are overpowering Sampson. Where is his strength? STEVIE: I think it s time for the freeze frame part of our program. Video Cue: Freeze Frame WORSHIP LEADER: Okay, let s freeze. Soldiers, Sampson and Delilah freeze. Cue SFX: freeze frame sound WORSHIP LEADER: What s happened to Sampson s strength? KIDS: It s all gone! God has left him. WORSHIP LEADER: The soldiers are taking him away! (Soldiers and Sampson exit stage right) But, not before throwing delilah a pouch of silver. Unfreeze. Watch Delilah. What is she doing? KIDS: Counting her money. Delilah opens bag with glee and begins to count as she exits and walks down center aisle. Cue BG Music: slow, sad and dark WORSHIP LEADER: The soldiers will blind Sampson, throw him in the prison and chain him to the grinding stone. Now, it looks like the Philistines have won. In fact, all the leaders are having a party in a great hall to celebrate that their false god has delivered Sampson - their enemy - into their hands. They yelled for the soldiers to bring Sampson out so that they could make fun of him. Sampson asked to be tied between two columns.. The ones that held up the whole building. Say, here he comes now. What do you notice about him? Sampson has the wig back on him in pony tail so it won t look so long, tied with piece of cloth. He is stumbling and blind, chained and led by soldiers to spot between columns. KIDS: He s blind. His hair is growing back. WORSHIP LEADER: Yes, his hair is back and so is his strength. Let s watch what happens on this video. Video Cue: Sampson bringing down the building (end at hand under rubble) Sampson, in the dark, pantomimes prayer, then when building is going down in video, carefully bring down columns and lays down under them. WORSHIP LEADER: The Lord brought judgement on the Philistines through Sampson for he killed more Philistines when he died than when he lived. KELLY: What a sad story. Sampson should have remained faithful to God and put God first in his life. He should have stayed away from Delilah. WORSHIP LEADER: Kids, Sampson didn t obey the first commandment? What did he put before God? KIDS: Delilah, his strength, his own desires. WORSHIP LEADER: Who should be number one in our hearts? KIDS: Jesus! WORSHIP LEADER: Repeat after me. You shall not have Any other gods Before me. Let s pray: Father in heaven, Give me the desire To always put You First in my life, Before anything else May You always be My number one. In Jesus name I pray, And everyone said, So be it!
