CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES During Lent our community will participate in CRS Rice Bowl, a faith-in-action program that invites us to encounter the needs of the world with the hope of the Resurrection. We will see how our Lenten prayers, fasting, and almsgiving can respond to Pope Francis's invitation to Share the Journey by supporting those worldwide who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities. CRS Rice Bowls went home yesterday. Please consider using it to guide your prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Visit crsricebowl.org to watch videos of the people and communities you support through your Lenten gifts. We will collect your CRS Rice Bowl at the end of Lent. Thank you for your support. REFLECTING SUNDAY S GOSPEL MESSAGE FAITH HEROES THROUGH FAITH FORMATION First Sunday of Lent Reflecting on the Word The devil tempts Jesus to serve himself. Jesus could feed himself, possess all power, and have the angels come to aid him. But Jesus knew who he was and that he did not come to this earth to serve himself. Any power that Jesus uses reveals the glory of God. It is easy to fall for the temptation to serve ourselves instead of God. During this Lent, we may want to examine what tempts us to be a replacement for God. How do you keep your eyes focused on worshipping God alone? On the Way to Mass Describe something or someone that is hard for you to say no to even if you should. Why? On the Way Home from Mass Do you know who you are? How does this help you resist temptations? Living the Word Lent is a time to explore our relationship with God. At the heart of that relationship is knowledge of ourselves as children of God. During the next few weeks, take your family on a journey of self-exploration. To begin, invite all of them to draw a portrait that shows how they see themselves. When the portraits are finished, invite each person to talk about his or her work. Place the drawings prominently in the home.
