FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT FOR THE RIDE HOME First Reading 1 Sm 16:1b, Second Reading: Eph 5:8-14 Gospel: John 9: 1-41 Have you seen God change someone for the better? What sort of changes came about? How was faith involved? John's gospel presents us with a challenge. Are we willing to be changed for the sake of faith? Are we willing to see things as they are, not as we wish them to be? The man born blind gained true sight, simply because he was willing to be changed. Like the man born blind, we, too, must have open eyes and an open heart, a willingness to let God change us. How has God changed you in the past? What sort of change is God calling you to now? Parish Outreach Ministry Food pantry: Our goal as a faith-filled community is to make Jesus known to all of God s people. Outreach attempts to do this by helping others with their need for clothing, fuel for their home, as well as nourishing food. As we continue on our Lenten journey, let us pray for all of the families that our community helps, in one way or other. Please remember that Outreach cannot do this work without you, the community of believers. It is through your kindness and understanding that the work of Jesus can be made real. Before we know it the glory of Easter will be upon us. Outreach will be preparing a number of food baskets and Easter goodies. If you would like to make a donation of food, candy, or even Stop&Shop gift cards, it would be greatly appreciated. Just drop the items off after all the masses. Clothing: On Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 12:30-1:45 clothing will be given out in the church hall. If you know of an individual or family who could use any type of clothing, please tell them to come. Blood Drive: Our second blood drive of the year will take place on Sunday, April 30, 2017 after all the masses. Sign-ups will take place on Sunday, April 23, 2017 after all the masses. Please take this opportunity to become a donor and help save lives. Thank you and God Bless Prayer Blanket Ministry Meetings are held on Saturdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Contact Janice by email: pbministry16@gmail.com Next meeting is Saturday, April 8, 2017 New members are always welcome. 2017 Catholic Ministries Appeal Dear Parishioners, The 2017 Catholic Ministries Appeal is underway and we have already received pledges. Hopefully, many more families will be able to make a contribution to this years Catholic Ministries Appeal so we will be able to reach our goal $51,100. This effort is much more than a yearly fundraiser that supports the ministries and programs of our Church. It is an expression of our love for one another. Thanks to your generosity, we received $51,256 in pledges to the 2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal. Your donations help meet the needs of people in the Diocese of Rockville Centre and in our own parish. This money helps the poor and the elderly, supports health services, education and counseling programs for people of all ages. It provides for religious education for priests and seminarians, for meals-on-wheels, for chaplain services in hospitals, college campuses and county jails, along with many more ministries intended to help those less fortunate on Long Island. Finally our parish receives a cash rebate which last year amounted to more than $10,000. This money helps offset expenses needed to run our parish and the many programs we offer. God has blessed each of us with so many gifts-our families, friends, talents, abilities, in fact our very lives are gifts from God. As good stewards we recognize that all blessings come from the Lord and that these blessings are to be used to serve all God s children. Let s welcome our new bishop, The Most Reverend John Barres, by making a pledge to this years Catholic Ministries Appeal. The programs and services supported by the Appeal have a significant impact on hundreds of thousands of parishioners throughout our Diocese. I know these are difficult times and everyone s financial situation is different, for those families that can afford it, please consider making a pledge at this time. You have until January 31st, 2018 to pay off your pledge. No down payment is necessary. The Diocese will send monthly reminders. Keep in mind this is not a legal document. If you feel you cannot keep up your payments, simply discontinue them. To help you decide here are some suggested gift plans: **$100 pledge $10 per month ** $50 pledge $5 per month **One time payment = $20.00 Whatever you are able to give, large or small, will be accepted gratefully. Please keep in mind your gift is payable over ten months. To make a pledge, simply fill out the form below and place it in the collection basket or mail it back to the parish office.
