Glendive United Methodist Church Newsletter Email address umglen@midrivers.com July & August 2017 Website: glendiveunitedmethodistchurch.com Volume 4 Issue 6 I want to thank all who congratulated and wished us well on Don and my 50th Wedding Anniversary. As you know we went on vacation and celebrated. We really enjoyed ourselves even though we had a glitch with my car. My car got sick during Yellowstone Annual Conference and had to be taken to the shop. We ended up taking Don s little Chevy Cavaler on vacation which doesn t have as much room and is not easy for me to get in and out of with my cane and all, however, we made it work. That is how it is with our relationship with God. Sometimes, there is a glitch when things just don t seem to go as planned but it can be work it out anyhow. The glitch may be because we try to control the situation we are in, and by doing so we try to control God. Other times it is because we get that prayer answered but it is not how we thought it should be. If we just let God do God s work in our lives everything will work it s self out. Don t let things get you down. Go with the flow and God will get you though whatever you are dealing with in your life. Praise Be To God! Our New Kitchen! The Rest of the Story about the Fireside Room dishes While replacing the dishes into the new cupboards of the Fireside Room kitchen, we found the following written account of the history of some dishes in the cupboard: The melamine dinnerware in these cupboards was purchased with money and Betty Crocker coupons, by the members of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, to be used by any group of the church serving small numbers in the Fireside Room. It is requested, however, that these dishes always be used in this room. Please do not take them to the basement dining room unless the group being served is so large more dishes are needed. If this is done please return these promptly to this cupboard. There are 24 place settings in this set. See instructions below for washing & stain removal. Never let these dishes stand in Purex water. If any piece becomes damaged, please let me (Virginia Egli) know and I will take care of the guarantee and reorder. Thank... you. The dinnerware certificate is attached below this note and it says the dishes were purchased with Betty Crocker coupons in June 1963 -- 54 years ago!! So that's the rest of the story. The melamine dishes with a wheat pattern are safely back in the Fireside Room kitchen! 4
Memorials Memorials are a way to celebrate a significant occasion, remember a loved one, or honor someone special with an honor or memorial gift in their name. The Church uses memorial gifts for special items or projects that are beyond the annual budget. Memorial gifts received : In memory of Kay Schuett, Virginia Egli, and Leone Langemo from Heather Haas Heather wanted the memorial to go towards the kitchen project. Heather said, May there be many more decades of United Methodist Women and memories in that kitchen! In memory of Bob Brenner from Ron and Anne Freistone To make a memorial gift to the church, you can drop off the donation at the church office, put it in the offering plate at a Sunday service, or mail your donation to the church at Glendive United Methodist Church, Box 200, Glendive, MT 59330. Please be sure to enclose information listing for whom the donation is in honor/memory and include a family name and address, if possible. You can specify a use for the donation if you wish (such as a particular building project or a part of the church, such as the organ or children s programs) or you can make it as an undesignated gift. Acknowledgement cards are sent to the family and the memorials are listed permanently in a Memorial Book at the church. Children s Corner Grayson Powell enjoyed our playroom off the Fireside Room on Sunday, June 11th. We were so happy to have him visit us and his mom, Ashley Powell.
