ST. MARY STAR OF THE SEA Epiphany comes from the Greek meaning "Manifestation". Today we celebrate the arrival of the Magi bearing gifts for the Christ Child. This is the revelation of God the Son as a human being in Jesus. Only Matthew tells us this great story, so that we might see the light and know that the child these magi visited is the fulfillment of God s promise to us of love and salvation! Jesus taught us that whenever we assist someone in need, we are assisting HIM! When you give a gift to a child that needs your help you are giving that gift to Our Lord. You reached out very generously by helping the children and families of Puerto Rico! Tomorrow marks the end of the Christmas season. We will celebrate the Baptism of Jesus not as an infant but as a 30 year old man at the beginning of His public ministry. That feast is a sister celebration to today s feast of the Epiphany. Each of them celebrates an epiphany, or manifestation of the Spirit of God in Jesus first in His birth, and now at His baptism. On Tuesday we will enter the period called Ordinary time but only for a brief time. Lent will be here incredibly soon Ash Wednesday on February 14th! I wish to offer a very special thank you to Mary Carriero, Carmen Medina, Doris Palenque, and Tom Casucci & Charles Roussim two creative masters... for the absolutely amazing work they did decorating our Church.
