Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Belle Chasse, Louisiana March 25, 2018 Divine Mercy Sunday Sunday, April 8, Divine Mercy Sunday 3:00 p.m. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Divine Mercy, Rosary, Meditation, & Confessions Concluding with 7:00 p.m. Mass Divine Mercy Sunday Divine Mercy Sunday is an Observance in the Roman Catholic Church in which followers are encouraged to offer forgiveness and reconciliation to all. It is based on visions recorded from St. Faustian Kowalski. In 2000, it was decreed a solemnity, a high feast day, by Pope John Paul II. Roman Catholics are required to attend worship, go to confession, and take Holy Communion. Divine Mercy Sunday occurs the Sunday after Easter. St. Faustian was a Polish nun who lived in the early 20th century. She devoted her life to spreading the word about God's forgiveness, or divine mercy, for anyone who asks for forgiveness. Although she was a mystic, she also cooked and gardened as part of her convent life. St. Faustian had visions much of her life. One that was the most profound was of Jesus, with one hand raised in blessing and with two fingers of his other hand resting on his heart. She said that Jesus asked her to have the image painted, and to include a prayer that said, "Jesus, I trust in you." This is the prayer that Catholics recite on Divine Mercy Sunday. OLPH School News In an effort to make sure our prayerful approach had meaning we chose to show The Chaplet of Divine Mercy in each classroom star ng at 10am. At OLPH we always say singing is praying twice and our students earnestly worshiped during this me. OLPH Prayer Service While some schools and students na onwide par- cipated in a walk-out against gun violence on March, 14, all New Orleans Catholic schools were asked to simultaneously hold 17 minutes of prayer. These 17 minutes represent the vic ms of the horrible act of violence in Parkland, Florida. The Divine Mercy Chaplet in Song can be found at https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=dytxixbnvgg Easter Egg Hunt The annual KC Easter Egg Hunt will be on Easter Sunday morning, April 1, 2018, behind the church. It will take place between the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Masses, about 10:15 a.m. All of the children of the community are invited. Please bring a bag or basket for the kids.

American Heritage Girls American Heritage Girls gathered for Stations of the cross on Saturday, March 10th. Afterwards, they held a Mother/Daughter Tea at the KC Hall. A wonderful time was had by all of the girls. Walk of the 9 Churches-March 30, 2018 Our Lady of Perpetual Help Confirmation Class of 2018 will be doing the Walk of the Nine Churches on Good Friday. We will meet at St. Louis Cathedral at 8:00 AM. We will begin our pray and walk at 8:15 AM. We should finish between 12:00 and 12:30 PM at St. Mary s Assumption. Please bring water to keep from dehydrating. A hat and sunscreen is recommended. Although it is Good Friday and we should be fasting, a piece of fruit or granola bar might be needed to keep up strength. The Triduum The ancient Great Three Days, to which all leads and from which all flows, celebrate the heart of Chris an faith: Jesus redemp- ve death and resurrec on. Related to the Church year as Sunday is related to each week, the Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord s Supper, con nues through Good Friday and Holy Saturday, culminates in the Easter Vigil, and concludes with Evening Prayer of Easter Sunday. With the renewal of the Triduum: Lent is observed un l the Mass of the Lord s Supper. The Great Three Days are celebrated. The Great Feast (Easter) is sustained for fi y days. (Easter Sunday is both the final hours of the Triduum and the first hours of The Great Fi y Days.) The first day of the Triduum, the Chris an Passover, is from Holy Thursday sunset un l Good Friday sunset; it is the day of Jesus death, and has been likened to the sixth day of crea on, when God formed us from clay and breath. It includes the liturgies of The Evening Mass of the Lord s Supper and The Celebra on of the Lord s Passion. The second day of the Triduum, from Good Friday sunset un l holy Saturday sunset, is the Paschal Sabbath, the day of rest. In burial, the Lord rested, and we rest in him (even from liturgy). The third day of the Triduum, beginning Holy Saturday at sunset, is the great surprise, the Easter surprise. This third day begins with the holiest night of the year, the vigil of Easter, leading into the day of days, the queen of feasts. Its liturgy is the queen of the royal liturgical family. According to the Roman Missal: Holy Thursday s service is The Evening Mass of the Lord s Supper. Good Friday s service is The Celebra on of the Lord s Passion. Easter Sunday s services are the Easter Vigil, Easter Sunday s services during the night, and Easter Sunday. Even though the Roman Missal does not call for a Sunrise Service, as it does a Mass at Dawn on Christmas, the sunrise service, a rela vely recent innova on, has become popular in the US. Some credit the origin of this prac ce to Moravians. The Czechoslovakian immigrants brought the custom to the US in the late eighteenth century. The Catholic Source Book, Rev. Peter Klein
