Brothers and Sisters in Christ, May the Lord give us His peace. TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME As I write, I am still basking in the glory of this past weekend. I was so blessed and humbled to see the tremendous outpouring of love, affirmation and support from our two parishes as I was officially installed as your pastor. I cannot thank you enough for the gift of your presence, your kind words and smiling faces over the weekend. I am deeply grateful for the countless, humble volunteers who made this weekend so special. Many people came forward to offer assistance to plan, organize and execute a perfect game plan. I am particularly grateful for the leaders of our Collaborative Family who formed the installation committees. They worked extremely hard making this weekend very special for me and our community, as well as for my family and friends who joined me for this celebration. Special thank you to: St. Joseph Installation Committee: Celeste Devlin, Jackie Kilrain, Sue Welliver, Monica Solarchick, Terry Carew and Peggy O Brian. St. John the Baptist Installation Committee: Donna Niosi, Joe Stevens, Joanne Curry, Kathy Creedon and Ron Stec. At the Installation Mass, I shared a story of a family camping trip experience from many years ago. It was feared that a boy had drowned, so the lifeguard asked all the adults to line the beach and link arms, and then proceed into the water to literally comb the water into the deep, with the hope of finding him in time. Meanwhile he was fishing in the lagoon. :) But that image has struck me to this day: everyone was shoulder to shoulder, arms linked, walking side by side, with a common goal and direction - to save this boy. For me, this is what the Church is! It s not about one person or a few select people, it's about ALL OF US, working together, shoulder to shoulder, arms linked, with the goal of making Jesus known and loved; serving him in the poor, the abused, the vulnerable, the addicted, the neglected and forgotten. If our arms are linked, no one is left behind or forgotten! We are called to proclaim Him, in word and deed, to those who are near our parishes and those who are far away. Our Collaborative Family will be known for the way we are united in a radical love for Jesus and each other; making Him known and loved, in Quincy and beyond. Lastly, I desire this love of Christ to be so evident and alive in our community that it is my dream that one day, just like the TV Show Cheers, our parishes will be a place where: EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME! Now that is a community that puts love of God and neighbor into action! Your brother in Christ, Fr. Matt+ Special Acknowledgment for Fr. Matt s Installation as Pastor of St. Joseph/St. John the Baptist Collaborative; Frank Brillo Catering for the generous contribution to the reception for St. Joseph parish. SEPTEMBER 30, 2018 Now more than ever, our priests, seminarians and those contemplating the call to serve Our Lord need our prayers. Here a St Joseph Parish we have a way for you to do your part to support these men who have proven to be our good shepherds and those in training or contemplating the call to be a good shepherd. The vocation crucifix is available to be signed out by individuals or families for one week. Take it home and pray the vocation prayer daily. The sign up sheet is in the entrance of the church. The process is easy. Choose your week, sign the sheet. When your week arrives pick up the crucifix in the sacristy when you come to mass. Please return the crucifix to the sacristy before the 4 pm mass on Saturday so it will be available for the next person. The Vocation Crucifix has been signed out by the following parishioner (s) for the weeks of: Sept. 30 Mark Wilson Thinking About Becoming Catholic? Do you know of anyone, maybe yourself, who may be interested in becoming a Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is designed for non-catholics who may be interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and perhaps becoming a Catholic, by preparing for and receiving the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Adults who were baptized as Roman Catholics, but did not receive further catechetical formation, and consequently did not receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist are also candidates for this program. We are happy to say that we already have four adults who have registered! For more information, contact Fr. Matt (617-773-1021) On September 6, I had my Eagle Scout Board of Review. I am happy to tell you all that I passed and was made an Eagle Scout on that date. I want to thank everyone again for all the help and support that I received from you all for my Eagle Scout project. Without your help, I would not have been able to do it. I am proud of my project and proud to be an Eagle Scout and I cannot tell how grateful I am to all of you for making it possible. I will be officially made an Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor at the Hough s Neck Congregational Church, 310 Manet Ave. in Quincy on Saturday, October 13 at 3:00 PM along with two other Scouts. You are all welcome to attend and I would be happy to see my parish there! Thank you!
