Parish Membership New members need to contact the Parish Office to register for an Evening of Welcome at which time the process of formally becoming a parishioner will be initiated. We receive many requests for certificates of sponsorship for Baptism and Confirmation. Certificates can only be given to registered members of the parish who have actively practiced their faith for at least three months. Members are those who regularly attend Mass and participate in and support the life of the Church. Sacraments Prayer Opportunities BAPTISM The Rite of Baptism is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month following the 11:00 am Mass and the third Sunday of the month at the 11:00 am liturgy, except during Lent. Parents must attend an obligatory preparation session prior to the child s birth. Arrangements for a Baptismal date are made at that session. MATRIMONY In accordance with Diocesan policy, couples wishing to be married at OLL must participate in a one-year preparation program, which includes FOCCUS, Pre-Cana, God s Plan for a Faith-Filled Marriage, and required paperwork. Please confirm the date with the Church prior to making other plans. Marriages take place on Fridays and Saturdays no Sunday weddings. Page 3

A Note From Fr. Len Summer time is when the staff at the office takes some well-deserved time off and we address items on our to do list that can only be done when things are a little slower. So what have we done so far? After 14 years, we finally have a garage at the rectory. It isn t a permanent structure but it protects my car from the elements. It will make a big difference this winter dealing with early morning frost and snow. Thanks to a group of Knights who put the canopy together. The second project was to address the area between the parking lot and the rectory. The deer have been decimating the arborvitae, the grounds have been used as a dumping ground for plants and cuttings and many of the older trees are dying. This week Hidden Hollow Acres, a bulletin advertiser, addressed the mess and has given the area new life. Finally, we will be doing a bit of office swapping over the next few weeks. Again, in advance I thank the men of the Knights of Columbus for their strength and advice in making this transition less stressful. What is left on the agenda? Nothing else...for now. Until something breaks, leaks, or falls apart. Thank you, the Body of Christ at Our Lady of Lourdes, for providing us with the resources to be able to accomplish these efforts. Liturgy Journey to God Our personal relationship with God is evolving every day. RCIA is a program where you can explore with us during a period of inquiry to see where God might be calling you to be closer to him! Monday 17 Tuesday 18 Wednesday 19 Ex 1:8-14, 22/Ps 124:1b-8/Mt 10:34--11:1 Madelyn Foster r/b Vera Cowan The RCIA is intended for: Those who have never been baptized in a faith tradition. Those baptized in a faith tradition other than Catholic. Those baptized Catholic as infants who have been inactive since that time and have not received the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. If you or you know of someone who might be thinking, discerning, or pondering about their faith, RCIA is a wonderful starting point. We begin in September. If you have questions or want to begin the RCIA journey, please contact the parish office at 534-2319. From the Diocese Silver & Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebration You are cordially invited to celebrate your 25th or 50th Wedding Anniversary with the Church of Metuchen. Renew your marriage vows with Bishop James F. Checchio at a special Evening Prayer Service in the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi, Metuchen. Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 4:00 pm Application forms may be secured by contacting OLL s parish office or by logging onto the diocesan website: http:// diometuchen.org/marriage-enrichment/. Going On Vacation? Many of our parish families are planning to get away for some summer fun and relaxation in the next few months. We pray that your vacation time will be safe and a source of many happy memories. However, please don t take your parish offering with you. Each summer our parish office struggles to juggle the bills as Sunday offerings decrease significantly. If you find that you tend to forget your envelope more often during the less structured weeks of summer, please consider our electronic giving program. Go to www.ollwhs.org and click on the WeShare link. It s simple! It s safe! And it keeps God at the top of your giving list even when you are away! Faith Formation Catechists Needed for Fall 2017 - Spring 2018 Two Catechists for Monday Confirmation Prep Please consider teaching your Catholic faith to our Parish youth. Our Confirmation Prep Program consists of 12 sessions and requires minimal prep work. You will have the support of a very creative Faith Formation staff. Catechists receive free tuition for their children. To volunteer, contact Nina at faithformtion@ollwhs.org or 534-2319 x 17. Faith Formation Summer Office Hours Monday & Tuesday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The Faith Formation Office will follow the summer schedule above. If you contact the office outside of that time your message will be returned as soon as possible. If you wish to speak to Nina Forestiere in person please call 534-2319 x 17 to set up an appointment. Thank you. Community Life Rosarian Gift Shop The gift shop is closed for the summer. Should you need anything in the meantime, please contact Ruth Stieh 534-4039 or rastieh@gmail.com to schedule an appointment. The gift shop reopens Sunday, September 10. Enjoy your summer and we will see you in September! Everyday Stewardship Over the years I have wasted a lot: a lot of money, a lot of time, and a lot of talent. Sometimes I didn't realize I was wasting these things but, after reflection, I realized I could have done more and accomplished much greater things. Of course, I think that is part of our imperfect humanity. It truly is easier for us to waste our gifts than grow them into something more. The parable of the sower speaks about the word of God that gets planted in our hearts. If the soil of our heart is rich, than the word will grow and change us. If that soil is rocky or full of weeds, the word will lie there without any impact, bearing no fruit. This parable can be applied to living a stewardship way of life as well. As sowers, we have been given the seeds of our time, talent, and treasure. We have a choice of where to plant these gifts. As good everyday stewards, we are called to plant them wisely and prudently. Oftentimes it is not enough to simply give away what we have. We need to discern the best places to sow these gifts so the maximum harvest can grow. This takes prayer, reflection, and study. Without a solid discernment process, we can find ourselves sowing seeds endlessly without much to show for it. But joyful is the person who has used one's gifts wisely, for the bounty of the harvest is great. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS Support a Worthy Cause Garden State Underwater Recovery Unit is an emergency response unit that specializes in water related events. Whether recovering drowning victims, rescuing people or animals that have fallen through the ice, or evacuating families from floods; GSURU members are always ready to help. We also support the community by providing water-safety training, water-safety at triathlon events, property recovery, and assisting law enforcement in underwater evidence searches. Our dedicated volunteers include highly-skilled divers, boat operators, mechanics and sonar technicians. Headquartered in Milford, NJ, we maintain a variety of boats and equipment that allow us to operate year-round, in the harshest water and weather conditions. Unlike most emergency response agencies, we receive no local, state or federal funding and never charge for our services. Our annual operating expenses are funded solely through fundraising efforts and donations from generous people and businesses in the communities we serve. Your donations will be used for the maintenance of our building, rescue trucks, boats and underwater search equipment. We have existed for over 55 years because we are excellent stewards of the funds that are entrusted to us. Join us at our Seafood Festival Saturday, July 22 at the Clinton ELKS, 211 Sidney Road, Pittstown. It is an all you can eat event lasting from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
