The Communicator JANUARY 2015 The Episcopal Church of the Covenant episcopaljc@gmail.com 314 N Adams (4 th & Adams) Fr. David Jenkins william.d.jenkins30.mil@mail.mil Junction City, KS 66441 www.episcopaljc.com 785-238-2897 Fax 785-238-2317 NOTES FROM FR. DAVID As we begin a New Year, I cannot think of any more appropriate guidance than the thoughts of Chaplain (Brigadier General) Ray Bailey, the Deputy Chief of Chaplains for the U.S. Army. Weekly Service Schedule Sunday Mornings 8:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rt. I 9:15 a.m. Adult Study Class 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, Rt. II 10:00 a.m. Sunday School for Children and Youth No Sunday School the last Sunday of each month Fridays 12:00 (noon) Healing Service With Holy Eucharist Among the many things that Ray Chambers, mentor to Jeff Weiner, C.E.O. of the professional networking site LinkedIn has taught me are five rules for happiness. the first one is living in the moment. The second is that it s better to be loving than to be right.the third one is to be a spectator to your own thoughts, especially when you become emotional.the fourth is to be grateful for at least one thing every day, and the last is to help others every chance you get. (as quoted by Adam Bryant in the New York Times, 11 NOV 2012). Even if we followed just one of these five rules, imagine how much better our lives would be? How many todays do we waste by worrying about tomorrow? Is being right ever worth the price? How often do our emotions get us into trouble? What would a life of gratitude look like? What if helping others wasn t the exception, but the rule? Time for a change? There is no better time to begin! God bless, Fr Dave

Matthew 2:1-5 In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage. When King Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; and calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They told him, In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet. 4
