KNIGHTLY NEWS Saint Maximilian Kolbe Council No. 8762 Pismo Beach, CA District 52 Division 111 OCTOBER 2018 VOLUME 26, NUMBER 10 Grand Knight s Message Worthy Brothers, October is a busy month, as we honor our Blessed Mother and the miracle of Fatima. There are several opportunities for us to publicly participate in reminding everyone that prayer is the foundation for all our efforts as Knights and the Rosary is a mighty offering to the Glory of God. The Rosary Rally at St. Paul s will be followed by lunch prepared by Brother Chef Gary and his merry kitchen crew! This is also our annual Membership Drive. We can always welcome new members to share in the joy of service to our families, parish and community. Wouldn t it be great if everyone reading this brought a new man into our Council? We also are presenting our budget for the new Columbian Year. As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities for you to spare a little time helping with the various events and programs. We hope that you will help keep our costs to a minimum and our income to a maximum! A huge thank you to all who made last month s dinner such a success. It takes many hands (and hearts) to serve. Our gratitude also goes to the many family members of Knights who served alongside their loved ones. The Knights are especially grateful to all who attended this first-ever event. Finally, we will be offering Tootsie-Rolls to help in the Knights national efforts for Intellectual Disabilities. We also appreciate a donation. With Trick-or- Treaters knocking on our front doors, a Tootsie Roll brings smiles to faces and offers help to the many challenged children and adults in our community. Eric Swearengin, Fr. Allen, Joe Hidalgo, Gary Benvenedo, Mel Ormonde, Paul and Mona Adame and Wayne Toscas. While we volunteer many, many hours to serve our families, parish and community, there are expenses involved that must be met. COLUMBIA MAGAZINE The hard truth is that Christians are on the verge of extinction in the Middle East. We must not allow this to happen. The sad assessment is part of Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson s column outlining the Knights of the world helping the terrible, deadly plight of Christians in the area. With the cover of the new image of Our Lady Help of Persecuted Christians, the current issue of Columbia is devoted to a timeline of the Knights efforts on behalf of brother and sister Christians, our fraternity has reached out to some of most desperate in our world. While an awful commentary on the inhumanity humans can practice, the Knights efforts combined with other keep hope alive for those suffering persecutions.
