E S O T J 17, 2018 2100 will be an interesting era for humanity. Projections show that Florida, Manhattan, and all low areas on the Eastern coast and gulf coast will be covered by the ocean. Aquifers that were once fresh water will become too salty for human or animal use. It is projected that the Southwest will become too hot for us with temperatures reaching to 130. We already see the effects. Trees that were adapted to a previous wetter and colder climate are already dying and have been dying off for the last couple of decades in the mountains of the Southwest. These trees become more susceptible to insects and fungus, as they die of thirst. The dead dry trees fuel the great forest fires that have been consuming the West over the past couple of years. We are truly in the Anthropocene, where human behavior is the greatest factor affecting our environment. As we ponder the near future and what our successors will be enduring, we must take care to reflect upon how we live now. I encourage everyone to read Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si, On care of our common home. We can live like there is no tomorrow, but that would be sinful. Fr. Sam ~ REMINDERS ~ Youth Group Conference Many members of our Youth Group will be leaving for the Steubenville of the Rockies trip this coming Friday, June 22nd, please keep them in your prayers throughout the weekend. This is a wonderful opportunity for their faith life to grow. They want to extend their appreciation to everyone who helped make this trip possible. CA Pizza Kitchen This Thursday, June 14th, is our day at the CA Pizza Kitchen. Get a flyer from the office or the Church Gathering Space. The parish receives 20% of your bill. MASS INTENTIONS To schedule an intention, please call the parish office, 801-571-5517 or go to the Information Center in the Gathering Space after any weekend Mass. Everyday Stewardship A father is a man who loves without cost to his children and tries to raise them to be fully human creatures with the abilities to make a difference in our world. Some fathers are successful, some are not. However, almost all try their best. This Father's Day, let your dad know that you appreciate all his efforts. Strength--Your strength in helping me to tell right from wrong was a great gift. Honor--You taught me that to honor myself was a way to honor the God who made me. Faith--Thanks Dad for having faith in me, when I was not sure I had faith in myself. Love--You loved me even when I did not love myself. For that I am grateful.
