Living, Loving and Learning this Week 1st February 2019 This Week On Thursday, our Year 1 children visited Crackley Hall for a joint retreat with Year 5 Crackley Hall children. They took part in lots of activities, including making sunflowers out of fingerprints whilst thinking about how God makes us all unique. The children enjoyed making lots of new friends. Children at Crackley Hall reported that the afternoon was amazing and one child from St Augustine s said that they d remember this day forever! Thank you to Crackley Hall for organising the retreat and providing mini buses. Also thank you to Kenilworth School for the loan of their minibus and to Mrs Bramwell for driving the children. PTFA News - 200 Club The first draw of the St Augustine s PTFA 200 Club took place today. We'll update you with the winners in next week's newsletter. Watch this space! St Augustine s Catholic Primary School Newsletter We live, love and learn together in the light of the life of Christ.

Collective Worship Mass This morning, Year 4 celebrated Candle Mass in their classroom. The children added to the Mass by dramatising the Gospel - the presentation of Jesus to the temple. Thank you to Father Kevin for an intimate yet well supported Mass and to the huge turn out of parents, grandparents and governors who came to support the children. Next week, Year 3 are celebrating Mass in their classroom. All are welcome. After Mass, Father Kevin will be talking to the children about the sacrament of First Holy Communion. Confirmation This week, Father Kevin visited Year 6 as part of their preparation for Confirmation. Ellie said she learned that, The life of the church is like a bicycle wheel where the church is the hub and everybody working towards good are the spokes. Thomas said, During the service, we say I do six times to renew our Baptismal promises. Father Kevin is returning to the Year 6 classroom next week to continue to help with Year 6 s preparation. Prayer Focus Come Holy Spirit, Fill the hearts of your faithful And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. Amen

Online Safety You may have read in the news this week that media regulator Ofcom have published their annual report on media use, attitudes and understanding among children. Next week is Safer Internet Week in school, with Safer Internet Day being celebrated globally on Tuesday 5th February. In school, children will be learning through lots of different fun activities how to stay safe whilst also enjoying their time online. The Online Safety Sprites also ask that all competition entries be given in to them by Friday 8th February. This is a county wide competition with the chance for one school to win a 100 prize for KS1 and 100 prize for KS2. Church Cleaning Rota Can you spare 1-2 hours every 6-8 weeks? St Austin s church is cleaned by a team of volunteers who work in pairs on a rota basis. It takes 1-2 hours to do and can be done on a Friday afternoon just before school pick up. We are desperately in need of more volunteers to help. If you and a friend can spare a little time every couple of months please get in touch. Email jane.poulter@sky.com Thank you. Phones in Celebrations Assembly Please can I remind all parents that phones are not allowed in school (this is the case for pupils, staff, governors and parents). However, we do allow phones to be used as a camera in Celebrations Assembly so that you can take a photo but not a video of your own child (not to be uploaded onto social media). Please make sure that your phone is only used for this purpose in Celebrations Assembly.

Week Monday 25th February - Friday 1st March (the first week back after the half term holiday) is Science Week in school! There are lots of fun and interesting activities planned for this week in school, including the KS2 trip to the National Space Centre and a Science Magic Show for Reception and KS1. The week will culminate with a Science Festival on Friday 1st March at 6-7:30pm, which will be open to all parents and members of the community. During the festival, there will be the opportunity to visit a mobile planetarium, a chance to wander the classrooms where children will be showcasing the work that they have been doing throughout the week, and we are also hoping to have some telescopes available for a spot of stargazing. Please make a note in your diaries to keep this evening free. PTFA News We need your second hand uniform! We plan to have a Second Hand Uniform Sale on Friday 15 February between 3 and 4 pm. Could you please bring in any good condition school uniform to the school office between now and Thursday 14 February. Many thanks for your support.
