August 5, 2018 Dear Parishioners, Thank you to everyone who could join us for the parish picnic yesterday! A special thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen we are most grateful. Steady progress continues on our construction projects. We are mostly right on schedule. Please continue to pray for the workers and that everything proceed according to God s plan. May God bless you and keep you in His care, and may the Blessed Mother intercede for you, Father Cibelli Father, ASK THE PRIEST During Mass, I see you lips moving but you aren t speaking loud enough for me to hear. What are you saying? Prior to the Second Vatican Council s reform of the liturgy, a majority of the prayers of the liturgy were said in a low tone. One of the reforms of the liturgy after the Council was that the priest would now pray the prayers of the Mass clearly and distinctly. However, there still remain in the Ordinary Form of the Mass some prayers which the priest is instructed to pray, quietly. These are not to be mental prayers, but actual verbal prayers, yet prayers which are spoken so only the priest (and perhaps the altar servers) hear them. Generally, the reason why the priest is instructed to say these prayers quietly is because they are prayers that refer only to the priest. They are prayers which ask the Lord for blessing or forgiveness for his own sin or inadequacy. The secret or silent prayers, as they are often called, fall into three main categories: The Gospel, the Offertory, the Communion Rite. These quiet prayers are very beautiful and I hope to discuss each group in an upcoming column. Ask The Priest is a continuing feature of the Bulletin. If you have a question regarding the Catholic faith, please place your question in the box on the back table.

There's an opportunity for sidewalk counseling if you're comfortable doing that, but first, prayer at the site is very powerful.
