Lent is a season of 40 days, not counting Sundays, beginning Ash Wednesday and ending Hoy Saturday. Lent is a word that comes from the Ango Saxon word 'encten' which means 'spring.' The 40 day period is a reminder for us that Jesus was in the widerness 40 days whie being tempted by Satan. Jesus endured the evi of the devi. Jesus was preparing to begin his ministry. Lent is a time of repentance and fasting. Lent is a time for us to prepare for Easter. Lent is a time for sef examination; a time for refection. In the eary church, Lent was a time for preparing new converts for baptism. Today, Christians focus on their reationship with God whie often choosing to give up something. Others may choose to be intentiona deveoping a new positive habit ike encouraging others or serving others in new ways. Sundays are not incuded during Lent. These Sundays are ike a 'Litte Easter' ceebrating the joyfu anticipation of the Resurrection. Refect on Sundays during Lent. Refect on the whoe year. Does your ife refect the joyfu anticipation of the Resurrection? Maybe think of a song in your heart... "They wi know we are are Christians by our ove, by our ove. Yes, they' know we are Christians by our ove." Why Lent? Because we are a broken, sinfu human beings in need of a Savior. We are mercifuy asking for the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Invitations & Upcoming Events COUNCIL NEWS The congregationa meeting was hed on February 19th and the 2016 Annua Report and updated membership directory s were handed out. The Counci Meeting was hed on February 21st. The foowing are a few of the actions and recommendations taken: Treasurer, De King proposed and the counci approved the audit committee members for the 2016 Audit. They are BJ King, Doug Logan and Stephanie Yearwood. BJ and Doug were aso on the 2015 Audit Committee. The Counci aso passed a motion that the Audit Committee shoud focus and accuracy and thoroughness, and if necessary can extend competion beyond the March 15 deadine as stated in the Constitution. The counci agreed that the counci goas for 2017 wi be; Revive Redeemer, Revise the Constitution and Restore Financia Confidence. Church Counci meets on the third Tuesday of the month, March 21st at 6:30pm. A are wecome to attend. Ash Wednesday - March 1st. Our service wi begin at 7:00 pm. and we wi begin another 40 day Lenten journey. Lenten Soup and Sandwich Suppers - Beginning March 8th @ 6:00 pm, we wi begin our Wednesday night soup and sandwich suppers. There is a signup sheet in the narthex for vounteers to provide sop and dessert. At 7 minutes ti 7 we wi begin our Lenten service, with a video series entited The Path to the Cross.
